I had 4 nights at the Laurels Guest House in room number 1.
It is quiet as all the rooms are on the rear of the building and they are on ground level, similar to attached bungalows, It is so easy to move all suit cases to your room as there is a separate entrance door to the side of the building for the guests, and you can drive up to it, this is locked all the time so it's very secure.
There is a lovely rear garden in front of all the rooms, this is enclosed so nobody can wander round here, the windows open vertical angled and wide if needed, so there is plenty of ventilation for those hot periods.
The hosts John and Jill are pleasant and very helpful and could easily direct us to bus services and all local attractions if needed.
The breakfast was excellent and the service equal to this, the B & B is spotless, and always smells fresh on entry via the side door, our room was clean and fresh every evening on return and was a pleasure to be in.
All the decoration and furniture is on the modern theme and is thus light and simple and appealing to both young and older people, it's nice and light generally and not a dark place like some you may have stayed in.
There is a car park in front of the building, it's off the main road and will easily hold all the cars belonging to the guests should each room need a car parking space, we noticed in Edinburgh at many B and B's in the centre this may not be the case an there are double yellows outside, there are none here so you could even park on the road, or if you are meeting up with friends they can park up on the road too, excellent parking facilities.
It's not far to the centre about 10 mins if that, but at the moment there are roadworks in progress on some roads into the centre so allow time for this if you travel by car, there are plenty of bus services from a bus stop 2 mins walk away.
The sleep quality is excellent and there is no noise other than the birds whistling in the morning, the rooms are cosy and the bed was good, the room in general was pleasantly presented.
There are complimentary tea and coffee facilities and bottled water, we has a small fridge in the room too which was handy.
My summary, a good reasonably priced Guest House, in a good spot for all Edinburgh and the Zoo, would certainly return and would recommend to others looking for a good place to stay.
To John and Jill keep up the good work, you will always show "no vacancies" more than "vacancies" as you did when we were there, this speaks for itself try it and see, good value, reasonable tariffs !
