Booked last minute and the owners were incredibly accommodating. The B&B is on a quiet side road very close to George Street and Princes Street. The room was large and tastefully decorated in a style suited to the property (no all-too-common contemporary walnut veneer here!).

Breakfast was stunning (the haggis was divine!) and, as a lone traveller, it was fantastic to sit round a large table and chat to the other guests.

A really wonderful property, charming hosts and idyllic location. Very highgly recommended.

I'm a great one for birthdays and for my own this year I wanted a special birthday celebration. I found the venue for it at Four Hill Street in a quiet street in Edinburgh's New Town, just minutes away from George Street and Princes Street. The outside is classic Georgian architecture and gives the first hint of the stunning and tasteful interior that lies behind the front door. My husband and I stayed in the Powlett Room which is one of the rooms at the back. The room is beautifully furnished and equipped with everything one needs like tea and coffee making things, digital television, etc.
There was a great choice on the breakfast menu next morning and it was hard to decide between the full Scottish and the Smoked Salmon but we managed!
The welcome from our hosts Charlotte and Stewart Robertson was equally good. We will definitely stay there again.

My boyfriend and I stayed in Four Hill Street for a sight-seeing weekend and couldn't believe our luck in finding such amazing accommodation.

The first thing that strikes you is how beautiful the decor is - it's obviously been lovingly renovated and all the rooms have lovely period features, but aren't fussy or twee. The owners are friendly, helpful and informative without being at all intrusive. The rooms have lovely thoughtful touches such as complimentary shortbread, mineral waters, chocolates and 'The List' magazine (with reviews of hundreds of restaurants and bars in the city). The bed was very comfortable, with high quality cotton sheets and the en suite was small but very clean and with an amazing power shower.

The location is ideal - although tucked away on a quiet side street, shops and restaurants are a minute away, Princes Street is a 5 minute stroll (if that) and the station is 5-10 minute walk.

Last, but by no means least, are the wonderful breakfasts. Vast in choice and of impeccable quality, the bread is home made and everything is cooked fresh to order. I would particularly recommend the porridge with cream, brown sugar and cinnamon (kept me full for hours!) and the full scottish cooked breakfast which was not at all greasy and made from top quality ingredients.

All in all I couldn't praise this place highly enough, the price is very reasonable, especially for the location, and I'll definitely be staying here again next time I come to Edinburgh.

We stayed at the four hill street b&b the last two days of our vacation in edinburgh. my MIL had booked this for herself and my husband and i, from a internet search and d/w travel agent. the owners are wonderful and accomodating. the room we stayed in was the powlett room, generously sized, luxurious linens and accomodations. complimentary tea/coffee with hot water pot, complimentary two bottles of water, shortbread and 4 chocolates. they have tons of fliers of information in your room with stuff to do around edinburgh. they bathroom was typically european tiny, however the showerhead was a rainfall one, which was nice. the towels, handtowels all again had a luxurious feel to them. complimentary arran toiletries. we were there during the international festival and this hotel is centrally located in new town, very short walk to princes street and george st with all of the shopping, and about a 20 minute uphill walk to the edinburgh castle. the owners even called a cab for our ridiculously early 4:30 AM departure and called us when it got there and took all our luggage down for us at that time. the breakfast includes a self serve cold breakfast buffet (yogurt, fruit, cereal, juices) fresh french press coffee or fresh choice of tea, a full scottish hot breakfast cooked to your preference or choice of omelet or choice of porridge, i think it differs each a day a little bit in the choices. also toast. also they have a afternoon tea on friday and saturday afternoon.
