We have just returned from an excellent long week end in Edinburgh. It is one of my favourite cities so I always enjoy my visits there but the warm weather really did show it off at its best. This vist we decided to stay in a B&B in the "New Town" no. 21 India Street. It is one of the terreace of large Gerogian Houses set amid private gardens and cobbled streets. The area just gentle whispers class style and old money. However our stay with Sandra MacPherson turned out to be no ordinary visit. Behind the large front door was a wide hall containing two small working canons, a few game trophes and numerious painting of the clan MacPherson. Yes this is the current home of the head of the clan no less. I was impressed by the house and the warmth of the welcome from our hostess (more of this amazing lady later), and that was before I was shown into the guest room. The bedroom is given an air of granduer, furnished with the antiques that lately graced the MacPherson Castle. The bathroom was a lovely mix of old fashioned free standing bath and power shower. The house was wonderfully quiet at night with no road noise just the ticking of the old grandfather clock in the hall. All of this is fine and maybe other B&B have just as nice accommodation but I am sure you won't be gentle woken from your slumber by the sound of wonderful harp music played by the multi talented Sandra Macpherson - the music was to let us know the porridge was ready!! Breakfast was in the grand dinning room and our hostess produced the most wonderful food. I was not surpirsed to discovered that she is a expert in Scottish cuisine with numerious books to her name and she can put that knowledge to excellent use. Sandra made us feel so at home I nearly forgot to pay. In summary great house, smashing room, wonderful hostess and history to boot, great value for money.
