Stayed here in October 2008 as a base for exploring Edinburgh. Good welcoming atmosphere and very friendly staff. The continental breakfast was generous and the hotel also served tasty lunches and evening meals at reasonable prices. Stunning views of the railway and road bridges from the dining rooms.
We stayed in room 12 at the rear of the property which was clean, spacious and tidy. However, if you are a light sleeper be aware that the hotel is right next door to the Forth rail bridge and there is some noise from trains crossing this structure!
It's possible to walk by road along the estuary to South Queensferry which is only a short distance away where there are several pubs, shops and places to eat.
There is a railway station with frequent trains into Edinburgh (journey time about fifteen minutes). It takes about ten minutes to walk to this but part of the pathway runs up a rickety and badly maintained stairway at the rear of the hotel. Fine in the daytime if you are fit and able but at night it's unlit and lonely so it's best to get a taxi from the station on returning or take a slightly longer detour via a walkway at the back of a nearby primary school. The hotel staff may be able to advise you about this.
We had a very enjoyable stay and would recommend the hotel for short breaks
