We stayed three nights at the B&B of Reta and John McLennan in Edinburgh. It was really a fantastic start of a wonderful 2 weeks vacation.

The rooms are very comfortable and beautiful equipped. The breakfast was the best we had – extraordinary. Always fresh fruit and different kind of bread, eggs, fish – everything which is necessary for a perfect start. Reta and John always worry about their guests, gave very good tips and let us feel at home.

Whenever we will come back to Scotland, we definitely will start our vacation in the Violet Bank House.

This is as near perfect as you can get - it deserves every one of its 5 stars and then some.

Only 15 minutes from the airport with buses running to Prince's Street every 10 minutes from in front of the house. Only £2.50 for unlimited use on any routes all day - a bargain.

John and Reta are the most hospitable couple with nothing too much trouble and their standards are incredibly high. Lovely rooms which sparkle and a great breakfast to set you up for the day.

This was our first port of call on our first trip to Scotland and couldn't have been a more positive introduction to a beautiful country.

If you are looking for a top class B&B you won't do better than this!

Me and my partner just came back from a 10 days trip to Scotland and I must say that this accomodation was one of the nicest I have ever been to! Reta and John are great hosts, making sure that your stay will be as comfortable as possible. The rooms are beautiful and clean and the breakfast delicious!! I can really recommend this place!

My husband and I just visited the Violet Bank House for our honeymoon! We absolutely loved it and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Edinburgh! Reta and John were two of the loveliest people we have ever met! The room was very comfy and had all the conveniences we needed, the food was outstanding (check out the ovens) and they were so very helpful with our itinerary. It was a great base location and easy access to the bus system into the city and the surrounding area. They made us feel at home and they had a beautiful garden in the back with an access to a walking trail. It was our first trip to Scotland and it was our first destination and we would do it the same everytime!

We were Reta and John's guest from 19th till 22nd June '08.

They were great! We were given the two upstairs rooms facing the back gardens overlooking the Water of Leith. I fell asleep watching the hills and farms in the twilight.

Reta used to work for the Scottish Tourist Promotion Board and it showed. There was wireless access from the guest sitting room.

The breakfast was the best British breakfast we had. My son chose cheese omelet for three days!

Try walking the Water of Leith if you visit.
