The guest house is set in a residential neighborhood with many other guest houses. Donna is a wonderful hostess. Her rooms are clean, comfortable and priced right. And her breakfast is to die for. Fresh fruits, eggs to order and yummy cereals and yogurts.
We began and ended our trip at this lovely Guest House and could not have asked for a better beginning or ending. Since we had never been to Edinburgh we asked for suggestions for restaurants. Every one of her suggestions was on target. She (and her husband Alan) were helpful with reservations, called taxis for us and gave great directions to get to places.
I would stay here again in a heatbeat.

We arrived at The Kilmaurs House after a long hard journey. We could not have had a warmer welcome from our host Donna McKinlay. Tea and bikkies as we arrived. The rooms we had were excellent, recently decorated to a high standard indeed.

The Breakfast is legendary. Fresh fruits cerials and trditional breakfast, and I am sure anything you asked for would be produced for you in no time.

This is the best guest house of the very many we have stayed in ever.

Warm welcome, great host, lovely rooms, brilliant breakfast and only two minutes walk from the many bus routes to the centre of Edinburgh plus top value for money. WHAT MORE CAN YOU WANT?????? Enjoy

  • Liked — Clean comfortable rooms and such a warm welcome and Donna!!
  • Disliked — The stairs up to the front door

After traveling throughout Europe for a month, this guest house was definitely the best! We were offered tea / coffee and cookies upon arrival and when we had to leave at 6 a.m. on Sunday morning, the owners got up with us and gave us quick, easy directions to the airport and send us off with a packed breakfast.

Highlights:
1. Clean, well-decorated rooms that were warm and welcoming.
2. Clean bathrooms with clean, soft towels.
3. Breakfast - tons of FRESH fruits, great bread, and a full breakfast available.
4. Puppies! Two springer spaniel puppies (as of Nov. 2008) that love to greet the guests.
5. Willing and helpful staff - gave us directions, bus advice, transportation advice, where to go, where to eat, where to shop, where to drink, etc.

Overall, an amazing guest house experience. I would definitely recommend this house to anyone! Would definitely go back.

  • Liked — welcoming, kind, helpful staff, great breakfast, Puppies!
  • Disliked — Nothing.

We've just arrived from a 3 days trip in Edinburgh and we found for sure one of the best guesthouse in the city.
We were welcomed by a very nice woman, Donna McKinlay, who offered us a cup of tea with some biscuits at our arrival.
The breakfast was huge and delicious (all kinds of fresh fruits, cereals, and all scottish dishes for breakfast such as haggies, potato scone, pork sausages, ...).
The bedroom was very cosy and comfortable.
Donna gave us a lot of informations about the places to visit. She was our best Scottish guide in Edinburgh.
You can take the bus at the corner of the street. You go to The Royal Mile will take in 10 minutes.
If you look for a very cosy and nice place to stay in Edinburgh, choose "Kilmaurs House", you'll remember it !

We spent more than 5 weeks traveling throughout the UK and Ireland. Kilmaur's Guest House was the best experience and value for money. The breakfast was THE BEST. Donna helped us with arrangements for our next B and B, gave us free tickets to tour the Britannia, packed us a huge breakfast-to-go the day we left early to tour the highlands, called for our cab when we left, sent us with a guide to the bus stop, carried our luggage, brought us a welcome tea tray--even though there is a tea service en suite and we could have made our own. We loved it so much, we asked to stay an extra day.
After Kilmaur's, no other B and B came close to the service and pleasant experience of Edinburgh. I recommend Kilmaur's in the highest terms.
