Location:-

We stayed here in June as were going to see a show at the Edinburgh Festival Theatre and I had heard this hotel was closeby.

Closeby is an understatement as it's almost opposite so an ideal hotel if you're are going to the Festival Theatre plus only a short walk to the Royal Mile and Princes Street etc.

The hotel is up a small street which means it's away from the noise of the main drag which means a good night's sleep!

There's a good kebab shop just around the corner if you fancy a small snack on your way back to the hotel!

Hotel itself:-

We got a standard room which we got for £100 (£122 if booked direct with the hotel). The room had a view down to the street which was fun
as we could see traffic wardens putting parking fines on people's
cars as they had not paid for parking - oops!

The hotel itself does have a carpark hover it's is very small and kinda in the basement of the hotel so a bit dark and dodgy looking! A
lot of the spaces were being used for storage of items therefore
there were only 6 available so get there early if you can!

The rooms were great and spotless - very nice and modern inside. We had a nice flatscreen telly, nice comfy bed and all mod cons e.g. iron, tea facilities etc.

The bathroom was gorgeous - I now want a frosted glass door for my bathroom as I've decided we need to get the whole bathroom replaced now!

Breakfast:-

I had read that breakfast time could be busy so we went down for 9am and got seated no problem. The hotel does deliver a continental breakfast to your room at no extra charge hoever we wanted the full fry-up so had to go downstairs.

Breakfast was good as plenty of stuff available and no queuing so we made the most of it!

Overall opinion:-

I'd definitely stay here again as spotless hotel and in a good location with no noise outside.

Surely, a top end hotel like this isn't always going to be mid-range priced. When we entered our room for the first time, we were astounded how spotlessly beautiful it was. We hugged and kissed. We took pictures (which unfortunately didn't turn out). We had arrived.

The location is very good - just 1/2 mile from the Royal Mile along Nicolson St. It's on the other side from Waverley Station and the airport bus stop; getting up the hill from Waverley to the hotel in 10 minutes with your cases would be no mean feat. I'd even suggest cabbing to and from Waverley Station for a fiver. We tried walking it from the airport bus stop at night and got lost, though I'm sure many, many others would have done fine and we might have as well if we weren't too embarassed to ask for directions.

But if you're coming in on the airport bus, for instance, you're on Waverley Bridge. The cross street toward the castle is Market Street and away from the castle is famous Princes Street. With my cases, I'd go away from the castle and right on Princes Street, then right and up on North Bridge which becomes South Bridge which becomes Nicolson St. You may want to stop at a pub on High Street along the way. After 2/3 mile total, turn left onto Hill Place and it's at the end of the block.

We stayed here and we stayed at The Bank hotel. The Bank is right at the corner of the Royal Mile and Nicolson Street: the best location on the map in central Edinburgh. Yet, when we come back, we'll staying at Ten Hill Place instead. What everyone else says about how good this hotel is is true.

Enough about location: others have described the room decor very well - a modern Japanese style. The only odd thing was that the frosted glass bathroom door didn't afford as much privacy as one might hope for.

The reservations staff was wonderful. Free wired broadband Internet access was brilliant. The rooms were perfectly quiet and we even had some beautiful sunlight shine in from our room's windows.

One morning breakfast was busy and we waited a few minutes for a table; the second morning there was no wait and the buffet selection was even better. The hotel bar seemed dead at other hours of the day and night; I'd recommend going right around the hotel to The Southsider pub instead.

I have just spent two nights very comfortable nights at the 10 Hill Place Hotel Edinburgh, part of the Royal College of Surgeons Complex.

I was staying in Edinburgh for the Marathon and had chosen the hotel for location and price and it did not disappoint.

The hotel is not for from the Royal Mile, approx a 10 minute walk from Princess Street but in a very quiet area so no unnescessary night time noise and about a four minute walk to the Festival Theatre.

The rooms mirrored the description on the hotel website and were very clean and comfortable and contained everything I needed.

The staff were very attentive and on the odd occasion when I required assistnace it was immediate unlike many hotels I have stayed in.

I will definitely be staying at 10 Hill on any future visits to Edinburgh.

Ten Hill Place is a reasonable, centrally located and very modern hotel. The staff was accommodating and friendly -- from the early check-in, calling taxis and holding our luggage after checkout. The rooms were clean and hip with comfortable beds. This is one of the best values in Edinburgh for the price.

Stayed here for just the one evening on the 25th of May....have never been to Edinburgh before so was pleased it was so easy to find the hotel for a start, just a ten minute or so walk from Waverely Station.

We checked in earlier than the stated time, but this was no problem and we were dealt with efficiently and quickly at reception... We had a ground floor room, and my husband and I were delighted at the size of the room.

The furnishings are modern and fresh, and one of the nicest we have seen for the price we paid (which was £85.00 with breakfast through [--] ) Tea/ coffee facilities with complimentry bottled water....LCD TV with internet access.

The bed was lovely, very comfortable, fresh crisp sheets and huge pillows. The chaise longue was a nice addition! Our room (109) had two large windows although the view wasn't great, they made the room light and airy.

No complaints about the bathroom either, soft fluffy towels, great shower, nice complimentry toiletries etc.

Had a marvellous nights sleep, no banging doors, no traffic flying past - perfect!! This really made the night for me, as I live in a very quiet place and thus I always struggle to sleep in hotels, especially in cities.

We didn't have an evening meal in the hotel as we had already spotted a Thai restaurant just round the corner from the hotel, which I would definately recommend!! (Shared starter for two, two main courses with rices, two Thai beer and two large glasses of wine for £42.00) Can't remember the name but you pass it as you walk to the hotel from the station, it's on your left, begins with an A, right opposite the Theatre.

We didnt rush down for breakfast as has been recommended by various people, instead meandered down about 9am....no queue at all and were quickly shown to a table......good choice of food- the usual hot fayre and cereals, cold meats, smoked salmon, croissants, danish pastries and fruits.

My other half and I have absolutely no complaints at all about Ten Hill Place, and would recommend it..we will certainly stay there again.

Incidentally..while you are staying in this great city..if you spot the signs for the City Of The Dead tour, don't bother.....I was really looking forward to this after reading various books on the MacKenzie poltergeist - it was dissapointing..instead try one of the other Ghost tours which I imagine will be much more informative and tell you more about the history of the city as well......Mary Kings Close ( [--] ) is a great place to visit where you can walk along the underground 16th century streets that run under the Royal Mile...''Camera Obscura and World of Illusions'' is another interesting place to visit (next to Edinburgh Castle) ......lots of great illusions, interactive and for all ages, and fantastic views of the city from its rooftop.
