Booked this hotel after reading the reviews on TripAdvisor. Overall this is a pleasant hotel within easy walking distance of Edinburgh. We booked the week-end nice n easy package with a extra day. We paid extra for a superior room and were very pleased with the decor, space and in particular a very clean bathroom. Breakfast was fine and the staff very helpful. We raised a couple of points with the hotel and these were dealt with very efficiently and even received an email the following day !

We recently stayed at Ten Hill Place Hotel the last week in August. While the location was pretty good and the rooms clean and modern, the staff needed serious attitude adjustments. We arrived at the hotel before the standard check-in time. Before I could even finish my sentence to the front desk employee, he interrupted me to tell me I couldn't check-in. As that had not been my question, I then asked to store our luggage. He said yes, but did not offer to help carry any bags. That evening, when we finally did get to check-in, the new desk assistant proceeded to reprimand me for booking two rooms. When I tried to explain that I booked the second rooms for a couple traveling with us, we then discovered that the hotel had double-booked our friends. They then said that all credit cards had been charged and there was nothing we could do-even though the charges were not supposed to occur until after check-out. Our friends would have to pay for a second room they would not be staying in. When our friends asked for some type of assistance, the only thing the employee offered was to call the booking agent. Once they called the booking agent, they discovered that the charges came through the hotel. After all of the time taken trying to find this out, they had surpassed the timeframe for getting a full refund. They eventually did get a partial refund, but with much effort and frustration. On top of that, when booking, our rooms were supposed to include breakfast, but we were charged an extra. Also, in-room internet services were supposed to be provided, but we couldn't get our laptop to connect. When we called the front desk, they gave us a simple instruction sheet that didn't help then at the bottom, informed us we would have to call a hotline number and "Good luck.". Needless to say, we never did get connected.

Overall, the hotel rooms were very well kept and clean, but the staff needs better instructions on customer service.

Management response from NiallPinkerton, Hotel Manager
(Management representative)
Sep 7, 2008
Dear Trip Advisor,

To begin with, please accept my sincere apologies. I would like to assure you that this is far from our normal level of service, as confirmed by the many positive responses we regularly receive on Tripadvisor regarding our customer care.

It would appear from your comments that there was some confusion regarding your original bookings, which you feel were unresolved by the time you departed. I would be grateful if you would contact me directly and I will do my best to resolve this matter.

Nevertheless, I am pleased that you found our rooms and housekeeping standards to be satisfactory and hope that you will return to Edinburgh again soon.

Kind regards,

Niall Pinkerton

We stayed during the Edinburgh Festival and it was one of the best hotels that we have tried through the years. It is very near the Pleasance and about ten minutes from Bristo Square. Even Princes Street can be reached in about 15 minutes walking and even quicker on the bus (fare is £1.10 to anywhere).
The room was modern and spotless, with a big plasma screen. The only downer to me was the glass bathroom door. There are some things that I would rather do in private! If I return I will bring a large sheet of paper and some sellotape!
Despite some comments on here we never had to wait more than a couple of minutes for breakfast. The seating area is quite small so they insist on seating you themselves. The actual breakfast was quite good except for the haggis, which was usually dried up, possibly because nobody ate it.
Next year is being promoted throughout Scotland as Scottish Homecoming Year so expect lots of American and Canadian tourists with Scottish ancestors. You might need to book early.

We stayed at this hotel as part of our honeymoon.

We booked a standard double and found a stylish, clean and warm room. Lovely touches were the scottish shortbread, the colour coordinated cushions on the bed and the locally produced toiletries.

The location is no more than 10-15 mins walk from the Royal Mile and probably only 25 mins from Princes Street. Just what you need to be close enough to the City, but far enough away from the noise and hubbub.

The price was not excessive for Edinburgh in summer, and the only downer to the whole visit was that they had no parking, meaning we had to park in the pricey NCP down the road.

However, the positives far outweigh the negatives and we would definitely reccomend this hotel.
