I decided to stay at this hotel for 4 nights after seeing it's high placement on trip advisor and that it was in the Guardian Newspaper's top 10 hotels in Edinburgh. I booked through the website which offered a deal of 2 night's stay for £85 pppn with breakfast included and a bottle of champagne!
When we arrived at the train station, we took a taxi to the hotel which was quick and cheap and the first thing that we realised was that the hotel was in a good location (quite central).
When we arrived the check-in process was quick and painless and we went up to our room. The bottle of champagne was waiting for us on ice and the room seemed very clean. We had a great view of Salisbury Crags from our hotel room (I miss that view). The breakfast was lovely and catered well for us vegetarians (veggie sausages, pastries, toast, cereal or fruit) and it was nice to have an "all you can eat" breakfast to start us off on our day. The breakfast is available from between 7 and 10 which is very flexible.
On Tuesday we had a really busy day and opted to have room service; this was very cheap and plentiful and despite mistakenly not taking our room number resulting in a delay to the order (they knocked 20% off the cost for this) the food was good.
On the Wednesday we went out on a tour to the highlands, so it was imperative that we had an early breakfast. You can opt to have breakfast brought to your room for no extra cost and there is the option to have this earlier than 7. We opted to do this and breakfast was promptly brought to our room and meant that we could be off on our way.
The amenities were good, a nice flat screen telly with additional channels, free wired internet access and air conditioning. I know a lot of the reviews comment on the glass doors but it really isn't too much of a problem. The beds were comfortable and the whole experience meant that my stay in Edinburgh was highly enjoyable.
