My fiance and I booked this apartment hotel online, it appeared to be clean and affordable and a little out of to town according to the map provided with online booking agency. They do have a complimentary bus shuttle but be warned you need to book in advance they only have 16 places and they over book leaving you to walk the 45 mins into town, or bus should you find a stop and the right one.

However:

1. The post code and online map directions are completely wrong, the hotel apartment is not even on the outside of town but actually on Leith Docks.

2. The Free Bus shuttle, is the biggest crock, yes they do have one, but you need to book in advance as there is only 16 spots and even when you do book in advance they still overbook and don't check to see if they have overfilled their seats. Leaving you with a long walk into town or a bus ride if you can find the right one or an extremely expensive taxi ride in.

3. As the hotel is much further out then it has been mentioned or shown, there is not many available grocery stores to pick up supplies and it should be noted to get all of these things before you arrive at the hotel or you'll be out of luck, or a 25 minute walk to the closest mall on the other side of the docks at Ocean Terminal.

On another note, the hotel apartment were great, if you don't look hard enough, it was missing glasses and utensil expected for a aparment hotel. It was also missing the finishing touches such as pictures on the wall, hair dryer, coffee maker etc...The beds were really comfy and the lounge was huge for 2 people it was more then enough for us. I would still recommend this place for people to stay. The only thing is I would have my own car for transportation.

  • Liked — Great big lounge with views over the Leith Docks
  • Disliked — Staff excuses and the false postcode

The apartments were very pleasant and reasonably priced.
However, there were a few points that made our stay less than ideal.
1) The apartments were impossible to find, due to the wrong address being given on the website. Phone ahead and get the full address in advance
2) The shuttle bus was running on a very limited service, so we had to get taxis.
3) It's in the middle of nowhere - no shops or bus stops close by. This maybe okay in summer when you don't mind a walk but when we went it was incredibly windy and cold so you didn't fancy a long trek to find food.
4) The apartments were not cleaned thoroughly enough before we arrived.
5) Don't be mislead by the "gym and spa facilities". These are not available - there are a limited number of passes which are always being used. Read other reviews to confirm this. Totally pointless and misleading.

Overall though, for the price they are fine. I wouldn't stay again when I return to Edinburgh because of the lack of close proximity to the city and erratic shuttle service.

My family stayed at the Harbour apartment complex for 3 nights in February. Generally there were no big problems as the flats were new and clean. The location is great if you don’t want to be at the heart of a big city, but still close enough to enjoy all the tourist attractions. However there was a succession of problems that created annoyance rather than great difficulties. I will list them below:

*Upon arrival we were a bed light and missing most of the bed linen and all of the towels. As we arrived mid-afternoon this wasn’t too bad and by evening the missing bed and towels were provided. We never saw the duvet/pillow covers though.

*The apartments were supposed to have 6 of everything (plates etc) as well as cooking utensils. Despite requesting twice didn't end up with the correct numbers and we never received any bowls. Replacement glasses were provided, but some of them were already broken.

*No tin opener/wine opener – despite asking repeatedly. The 1st occasion was answered by “don’t have any”. I realise this is not a serious problem, but it is annoying when you sit down in the evening with a bottle of red only to discover you can’t open the bloomin’ thing! Ended up buying one ourselves.

*The advertised free sports access comes with a hitch. There are only a certain amount of tickets available per day and certain activities at the sport centre require payment.

*No hairdryer. Not a problem for me, but the ladies in the party were frustrated.

*The shuttle bus needed to be booked at least an hour before – fair enough. Yet the buses we took was still oversubscribed at it was more a case of first in the queue got on.

There are also good points to the apartment:

*Very close to the Royal Yacht Britannia which is a splendid visit.
*Close to a shopping mall if you want to eat out, or buy food at the supermarket.
*The free shuttle bus is great – 15 minutes from apartment to city centre with 2 drop off points.
*Plenty of comfortable sitting in the lounge area, although the TV is a bit small and doesn’t have digital channels.
*Spacious rooms, the en-suite master bedroom is particularly large.

For the price paid the apartments are fine for a family and some of the problems could be explained by teething problems as the apartment complex appears very new. Yet it is frustrating when you have to keep contacting reception to ask for things that should have already been provided.

Overall the apartment was fine, although some of the fixtures and fittings were a little flimsy. It was clean and the beds were comfortable.

However, we had booked this particular accommodation principally because of the advertised access to the pool at the gym down the road. With three young children who love swimming, we figured this would compensate for being at some distance from most of Edinburgh's attractions.

What the websites don't tell you though, is that free passes to the gym are limited and on a first come first served basis - every time we tried to get some (we needed 5), all were booked out. We were told that if we came back in half an hour, then an hour they should have some, but never did. Three disappointed children! By the third day we gave up asking. I know other families there had the same experience. I can only assume that people were taking passes and keeping them for far longer than the designated three hours, as the apartments didn't seem all that busy. It was all a bit suspicious.

The apartments are good value, but you really are in the middle of nowhere, a fair walk from shops and restaurants. The shuttle bus is reliable and the driver was very friendly, but the times are limited and it is essential to book as you might not get on.

Edinburgh is a great city, and in spite of disappointment over pool, we all had a fantastic few days.

Took my girlfriend here for valentines. Thought it would make a nice change from hotels and it was very reasonably priced. The location is pretty good if you want to enjoy seeing the new edinburgh, only 10 mins walk from the edinburgh assembly and chic leith docks. It was stunning.

The apartment was great, we arrived late on and as we were last to check in we got upgraded to the duplex on the top 2 floors, 2 bedrooms, huge lounge, diner, kitchen, 3 bathrooms! All of this for two of us, we were spoiled by it.

I would reccommend it to anyone and we will be going back there, I wouldnt mind living in the development when its completed. Brilliant, top class.
