My husband and I stayed in two hotels in Edinburgh in July: Tigerlily and The Salisbury hotel. Both were very stylish, particularly Tigerlily, but we wondered whether both hotels had prioritised style over substance rather too much. Tigerlily is stunning to look at, we stayed in the Black room which was HUGE and had black toilet paper! Other good things included a pre-loaded i-pod and dock, fireplace with fire, full size toilletries, extremely comfy beds, romantic lighting, stylish decor, friendliness of staff, and the cocktails. However...as stylish as the room was, most of it didn't work! The fire wouldn't light (the receptionist even commented that it was tempremental when she showed us round) the very exciting TV in the bathroom was broken and the shower leaked leaving extremely dangerous puddles on the already-slippery floor.
We would stay at Tigerlily again because actually it was very good value for a city cenre hotel, even with the things not working. However, we felt sad that there were things in our room that looked exciting but then didn't work. The restaurant was nice, staff were a bit frantic. Lulu's the nightclub below was good fun. So all in all a lovely trip, but just shy of perfect.
