Just returned from a stay with my daughter at The Victorian Townhouse. This place gets top marks on all fronts! The hostess, Aileen, is friendly, warm, hospitable, fun. My daughter and she were "a match" from the start. Can't think where else you'd get a hug from the hostess on your way out the door as you're leaving? The place is spotlessly clean, well equipped, and the rooms individually and thematically decorated. There's cable TV, a water boiler and all the necessary supplies for tea, coffee and hot chocolate in your room. Even two bars of KitKats! Breakfast is delicious and plentiful. The old town is within a 10-15 minute easy walk, and the Haymarket railway station is a mere 2 blocks away (disembark your train or airport bus there). True value for money! If we go back to Edinburgh, we wouldn't think of looking for any other place to stay if Aileen has rooms available.

We arrived at the townhouse at about half 11 on the Sunday. Aileen greeted us at the door and showed it straight to our room - and what a room it was. We stayed in the Caledonian Room which was amazing with its huge fireplace and comfortable sofa. The bathroom was equally as impressive. Everything was really clean. Aileen talked us through and showed us where everything was. Breakfast was excellent. Aileen is very accommodating. You can have a full scottish breakfast, toast, fruit, yoghurt, cereal. If you only fancy elements of the cooked breakfast she will do those elements for you. I didn't fancy the breakfast so she made me some scotch pancakes!
It takes about 10 mins to walk from the Town house to the city centre. There are however lots of shops and bars in the area. The zoo is only up the road as well.
Parking is a bit of an issue. There are spaces in front and around the crescent but quite a few are permit holders only and those that aren't you pay by a meter and have a max stay of 4 hrs
so ideally its best to not come by car.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The b&b is intimate, Aileen and her staff are friendly and welcoming and it comes highly recommended.

  • Liked — All of it, it was clean, the room was spectacular and Aileen made you feel at home
  • Disliked — Maybe a little too far from the centre but i'm struggling to think of something

What can we say - the best B&B we've stayed in. Aileen is a fabulous host with a wicked sense of humour, and makes you feel very welcome.

The B&B is perfectly located, with the centre of town and all the attractions in easy walking distance.

Each themed room is spotlessly clean, with great attention to detail regarding all the decoration and accessories. This even extends to the colour coded keys!!! All the rooms are very spacious - big enough to have a party (although we're not recommending that you do! :o) ).

Breakfasts were phenomenal. Fresh fruit awaits you at your table and is absolutely delicious. There is a wide range of cereal, yoghurt and toast. The cooked breakfast was divine.

A short walk from the B&B is a lovely small Thai restaurant on Stafford Street should you want an evening meal not too far away or to stop off for something to eat on the way back from town.

It is hard to find fault with this B&B. We would definitely stay there again when we visit Edinburgh!

The Victorian Town House is a fantastic B&B. Extremely comfortable and spotlessly clean, with a friendly, attentive and genuinely kind hostess (Aileen) who makes you feel like a true guest rather than a paying customer. We visit Edinburgh regularly and we're disappointed if Aileen doesn't have any rooms available!

We stayed at the Victorian Town House for three nights in March - left for an overnight farther north and then returned for one more night at the Victorian. We could not be more pleased with our choice! Aileen is so warm, friendly and helpful that you feel like you have known her for a long time. Her directions to the location are spot on and easy to follow. The location was perfect for us - close enough to walk to things we were interested in yet far enough away from hustle and bustle. There was an excellent pub we enjoyed nearby for evening meals - the Mercat, I think it was called.
Breakfast with Aileen and her brother Kenny was excellent. Beautiful fresh fruit every day - and that was only the beginning! We were there Easter morning and the Easter bunny had arrived at each person's place leaving a treat of chocolate eggs and a nice card from Aileen and Kenny. The rooms are very large and beautifully decorated. The showers were the best we encountered in our three week/three country trip. (We were in two different rooms while there - each one beautiful...)There is a separate entrance to the guest rooms which we liked. We left here feeling completely happy with our experience and even a little bit spoiled! We highly recommend the Victorian Town House and would return in a heartbeat.
