“Great Place to Stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2013

My husband and I stayed here during our stay at Edinburgh and it was excellent! The rooms were large, clean, and comfortable; and Aileen (the owner of the place) is friendly, helpful, and makes wonderful breakfast. She was able to suggest good places to see and eat as well as made a large delicious breakfast that keeps you full (even my husband) past lunchtime. The location is also extremely convenient for sightseeing in the city and transportation into and out of the city. If we are ever back in Edinburgh, I would definitely stay there again! :-)

Had a very good experience staying at "The Victorian Town House":

* Owner/operator: Aileen is the owner operator of the bed and breakfast and she does a great job. Extremely helpful and is very good at suggesting places to eat and things to do. Bottom line she is a great lady and bends over backwards to help you.

* House/Rooms: A little background on the house and the B&B. The house is on Eglinton Crescent street which has a number of 3 story houses all connected together. All of the houses have a basement that has a private door and steps up to the street. The B&B is in the basement and has 3 bedrooms with a sitting area and private bathroom. The room had queen bed and twin bed with a sofa in the sitting area and a TV. At the end of the hall is the kitchen and an adjoining breakfast room.

* Breakfast: The breakfast is included in the price. You have a significant number of choices from a full breakfast (yogurt with berries, eggs, toast, bacon, sausage, juices, coffee/tea) to a light breakfast (such as yogurt with berries, cereal, juice, coffee/tea).

* Location:
** Local: You can take a short 5 to 7 minute walk to West Maitland Street. There are a number of stores, restaurants, and pubs (of course) on Maitland Street. Aileen can provide you with a map to Maitland Street.

** "A bit further": You can walk North East on Maitland Street and you will run into Princes Street which has a lot of shops. From Princes Street to the right is the Edinburgh Castle. The best way to get to it is to walk down Princes Street to Waverley street and wind your way up to the Royal Mile which has some really neat shops. By the way it is about 5 pounds Sterling from the B&B to the Royal Mile.

Were I to return to Edinburgh I would certainly contact Aileen and stay with there is at all possible.

When we arrived, wary from a train ride from London, we were greeted warmly by Aileen, and even more warmly by a complimentary dram of whiskey in our room! The room was spotless, our breakfasts were delicious and made to order. Aileen was a great help with suggesting ways to get into town, and what we should see.
Wonderful stay, I highly recommend it!

We just stayed here in March 13 for four nights. We were in the Caledonian room which was huge and the bathroom was also big. Very comfortably furnished and clean. Aileen is an amazingly friendly hostess who makes everyone feel welcome. The house is well situated for walking to Princes street. A very hearty breakfast was provided with lots of different options available. The whole place was warm and cosy and we would definitely recommend you give it a try next time you are in Edinburgh. We loved our time there.

After 30 hours of travel, we were happily greeted by Aileen and introduced to her warm hospitality. The "Caledonian" room was spacious, warm, and comfortable, especially compared to the rest of the rooms on our trip. Breakfast was fantastic - we took the traditional Scottish breakfast but other options were available. We had good conversation with the other guests in the breakfast room. Aileen was great when some of our other plans changed, giving us good advice on food, attractions and the easily navigated public transportation. The location was within walking distance of the town center. Aileen even packed us a "to go" breakfast when we had an early train. We intend on returning to Edinburgh sometime, and will absolutely stay at the Victorian Townhouse again.
