We stayed here for a friday and saturday night recently. Initial impressions are great, bars look amazing and the rooms (we stayed in Atlantis) were big and very comfortable, the bed was amongst the best I've ever slept in. Atlantis features a fishtank in the wall above the headboard, through which you gaze directly into the shower behind..very cool, very sexy :-) Tip - the pump in the fishtank buzzes all night, but you can ask reception to switch it off. We drank at all the bars, drinks were good, particularly in Paris where we had plenty of cocktails, barman up there was a whizz with shakers. It was cool to be able to enter Paris through a dedicated hotel guest entrance, and the lift can be taken straight to Shanghai nightclub for a star entrance also LOL
It is a shame the other staff don't excel then. Upon arrival I requested a key as my wife had already arrived, checked in and then moved on to see some bars. The man on reception acted suprised and shocked when I asked for a key, muttering 'Another one?' which I confirmed yes to. Why wouldn't a couple visting a city for a weekend want a room key each? Also they failed to turn the bed down that evening, despite the fact we checked in mid afternoon so obviously weren't going straight to bed for the night...only disspointing as the advertising highlights these 'little touches' that were absent. Using the free/welcome drinks vouchers wasn't very pleasant, as there were 4 people in our party we had 4 vouchers and used them in 2 different bars...both times there was a goodly delay whilst the barstaff went to managers to check, leaving us looking like cheapskates/bill dodgers each time in front of other patrons.... Upon checkout the guy behind the desk couldn't operate the creditcard swipe machine so a 15 minute delay ensued whilst he waited for someone who could help.
In summary it's a beautiful hotel with amazing rooms and details, but the staff all appear to be new and or temporary and really let the place down on that front...I'd still recommend the hotel, but not if you value quality of staff/service too highly.
