We stayed with Mac and Marian for the final three days of June...and then, popped back in on July 8th. for our final night in Edinburgh. As I read through the other reviews for Straven House, I can only echo all of the same wonderful sentiments. Mac and Marian are a truly delightful combination. Mac is the the ever present "host with the most." He is always wearing a smile and sporting his delightful sense of humour. Additionally, he is a wonderful resource for information and helpful hints, for the anxious traveler. Marian's breakfasts are Heaven on Earth. The rooms were great! The location is perfect. Just a one block walk to the Portobello Beach Promenade and the meticulously maintained sandy beach. The bus stop (for bus No. 26 to downtown and back) is just one block, in the opposite direction. For an afternoon tea...or early light meal, Mac's recommendation of the Blue Bean Cafe was also perfect. It is just a short walk West - from the bus stop. I would highly recommend to anyone wishing to visit Edinburgh, to book your reservation at the Straven House, as soon as possible. I am certain that Mac and Marian are going to be busy folks. Mac & Marion are wonderful hosts and are so warm and welcoming. This is our third visit to Straven and we will certainly be back.

We would recommend this guest house to any traveller as it is lovely and quiet and has a lovely promenade at the bottom of the road.

Lovely house and so comfortable, with the choice of breakfasts an added bonus.

Lovely house by the sea in a quiet street, warm welcome, super king size bed, good ensuite, great breakfast, bus stop 1 minute walk (buses to city every 5 minutes). All in all......really good.

Excellent, is the Straven Guest House, right by the sea we were well looked after by Mac & Marion who are very welcoming and very friendly. The food was excellent and the room very comfortable. We certainly will book again looking forward to it.
Portobello is a lovely seaside place and is very near to Edinburgh and lots of other sight seeing places.

“Feeling at home.”

Being Emmigrant Scots we love coming to Scotland, (there is no lovlier country) but we usually stay with family and friends. This year we wanted to celebrate out 30th Wedding Anniversary, obviously in Scotland but not necessarily with the whole clan, so we looked for somewhere nice in Edinburgh. Well, didn't we find it! A gorgeous house, right at the sea-side and the most delicous breakfast we have ever eaten. Mac and Marion are so friendly and helpful that we felt as if we were living with friends as we normally do.
