The welcome was fantastic - I arrived late in the evening (c. 10pm) to the guesthouse, expecting to have to let myself in (as pre notified with my booking confirmation. However the owners were there still and doing "stuff". I was quickly registered, and was given a really good overview of how to get about, a was given a map of Edinburgh, and which buses to get etc. Really good information.
The breakfast were good - catered for veggies too. No dinner offered, and you get a complimentary water every night in your room, and have tea/coffee and kettle in room too. The guesthouse is only small with 6 (?) bedrooms , but very friendly, tidy and clean. The rooms are enormous (well, our's was - The Bowmore"), and we had good en suite facilities (though the water temperature was affected by others using the water).
They changed the room from a double to a twin when my mother arrived to stay, which was very accomodating. Charges are per room, and the Bowmore was a family room, which I believe takes up to 4 people.
Only two niggles: 1) the distance from the city centre - but that said, a) I knew that well in advance) and b) the buses are very good, and if that fails, there's always a black cab; and , 2) (and this is a rare occurrence I assume) I was woken on my first morning to the sound of dripping water from the ceiling on to my bed.... the leak last happened 2 years before, and the "fix" had obviously worked it way out. The owners very quickly rectified the situation, and the bed/matress was changed by the time I had come back later that day.
Overall - excellent customer service, the rooms were clean and tidy, however location not as central as I would have like to be for the Fringe.
