We booked the MW after seeing its excellent internet site. Unfortunately, the site showed the property in its very best light, and in the flesh it's a little less impressive.
It's sold as a boutique experience, and everywhere but the room, that's what you get. The hosts are charming, so friendly, and very welcoming. Breakfast is fine, freshly cooked and served in a stylish dining room. Coffee comes in miniature cafetieres, and there are fresh flowers and a personal welcome from the guesthouse's owners.
Our disappointment was primarily with our room. Rather than carrying on the stylish, clean lines of the downstairs, it seemed rather tired, with a stained carpet, flat pillows, and furniture that looked as if it had seen better days. The room itself was large, with a bathroom carved out of a corner. That was also a bit strange _ there was only one towel a person, and they weren't changed during our stay. Only one small bottle of mineral water was in the room (which was obviously a double, as there was two of everything else) and it's this kind of thing that stuck out as less than great.
The location is fine. This is not a guesthouse in the town centre, and that's okay, as the buses seem to run fairly frequently, except on weekends. We ended up using cabs for a lot of outings, which was okay as they were cheap (by London standards) and good.
Overall, the experience was fine, saved by the fantastic welcome of the owners and staff, but if you're looking for a little luxury, this isn't the place.
