After reading such superb reviews of the MW GUESTHOUSE, WHICH SHOULD NOT BE CONFUSED WITH THE MW TOWNHOUSE, I booked a 2 night stay. Arriving on the overnight bus I was horrified to find that my luggage had been soaked while in the hold and the bus company could not care less - but that's another story! I called Paul at MW who said I could come over right away, despite the fact it was only 9.30 am and check in time is after 1 pm. My room was immediately made available . I was supplied with a lovely welcoming pot of tea and was able to dry my clothes on the radiators and have a hot bath. Paul and John could not be more charming or welcoming hosts. Nothing is too much trouble to make their guests feel at home.Their lovely house is a pleasant 25 min walk from the city centre, ample on site parking is available and good bus services if you don't want to walk or drive. The house has many lovingly restored period features. My room had a delightful window seat, beautiful quality drapes and bedding, a very comfortable bed and plenty of storage. A very good welcome tray with filter coffee, hot chocolate, mineral water, mints and a variety of teas and good quality biscuits was provided. Although the private bathroom was not en suite it was very large with a window seat, excellent bath, huge thick towels, designer soap etc. and bath robe. The sitting/dining room is superb and more 5* boutique hotel than B&B, with comfortable settee, all the latest magazines and lovely fireplace. Breakfast was the best I have ever experienced, fresh juice followed by either a tall glass bowl with exotic fresh fruit, yoghurt and granola, or ambrosial porridge. As well as a beautifully presented Scottish breakfast or ham and cheeses, there is a daily 'special'. On day one of my stay it was smoked salmon and scrambled and on day two blueberry pancakes with maple syrup and bacon. All this accompanied by tea or an excellent cafitiere of coffee and very good thick slices of granary toast. I understand the guest house is closed duing November 2008 for improvements, but I am not sure how you can improve upon what is already perfection!
