I stayed here in early May with my cousin and her husband. We went off of the pictures on the website as we wanted a stylish place. We were also surprised that the rate was really decent - about $70 p/p per nite. They even had a room for the 3 of us to stay together. It included a very nice breakfast. Their presentation was very classy. If you like a crate and barrell/ simple pottery barn feel - then this is a great place.

The owner and her staff were extremely nice. The location was just fine as we walked everywhere and it was right on the edge of what we wanted to see anyway. If I were in Edinburgh, I would stay there again. It's better than a chain as you get a feel for the culture at these unique places.

Located on a quiet street within reasonable walking distance from the train station and the Royal Mile. Very nice and large rooms. The food was excellent. I would highly recommend this B&B.

We stayed at Dukes of Windsor for Hogmanay 2006 (unfortunately festivities were cancelled due to poor weather... duh!). Edinburgh hotels and B&Bs were packed and finding a room was quite difficult so we didn't have much of a choice... However we found it offered very decent service, the room was quite small but very clean and well maintained, location is ideal (7-8 minutes walk from Princes Street and 10-12 mins to the Royal Mile).
The street was very quiet and they served a decent breakfast.
We paid 108GBP per night but it seems Edinburgh gets incredibly expensive all of a sudden for the Hogmanay period so it was actually almost a bargain if you can believe it!
Overall I would recommend it.

  • Liked — Good location

We stayed at Dukes for a weekend in September and found that the hotel offerred good value for Edinburgh (approx. £80 for a double room) during the Festival. The rooms are designed in an attractive, neutral Georgian style. The bed was also comfortable and the bathroom was nice, although the shower was quite old and lacked water pressure.

The hotel/B&B has 8 rooms and is centrally located within walking distance of Princes street. Overall, I was tempted to give the hotel 4 stars and an "above average" recommendation, but we were let down by several service charges which we consider over the top. For example, in order to have breakfast in bed, you will be charged £10 for having the tray delivered to your room! Similarly, if you leave your luggage at the hotel past 2pm you will be charged £10. One would expect this to be complimentary as it would be an easy way to gain brownie points and word-of-mouth recommendations. As the saying goes, the devil is in the detail...

Went to edinburgh for a girls weekend with a friend over easter - found this B n B online and it totally lived up to our hopes. We stayed in the triple room (as it was supposed to be 3 people going but one person dropped out last minute) and it was lovely, better even than we expected!

The food was lovely, very daintily presented in a beautiful dining room and friendly staff always willing to refill tea or juice etc.

Overall i'd throughly recommend this bed and breakfast, its in an ideal location - we had no car but walked into town every day with no problems of being tired or too hot or anything - we didn't use a bus once (mostly for fear of getting lost) and had a wonderful time. We did all the usual touristy things and our room was one of the nicest things about our trip!

To further recommend it we're thinking of going back in September! If you love Georgian architecture then its a real find!
