We stopped for two nights mid week and couldn't have asked for anything more. Staff were brilliant, the building was stunning and the food was fantastic. We stopping in room 6 and on entry there was classical music playing, nice touch. The room was really nice with a jacuzzi bath.
We ate at the hotel on the first night and could not fault the food menu was brilliant and really well priced. Will defiantly be back - the nira caledonia ticked all the boxes and couldn't be faulted, 5 stars.

Recently stayed at this beautiful hidden gem in Edinburgh and loved everything about it. The hotel's location is on a lovely cobbled street which is mostly residential and just a 10 minute walk from the main town centre. The area, Stockbridge is also great for it's gastro pubs, bars and shops.

The room was comfortable, luxurious and characterful. We had a suite with an extra large bathroom with corner jacuzzi bath with big bay windows looking out on to the hilltops. It was just what we needed after a day walking up Edinburghs many hills.

The service in the hotel was also brilliant - the staff were friendly and really helpful. The food at breakfast was of a really high standard and everything was made fresh to order. I can also recommend the hotel's restaurant.

I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a boutique hotel experience. It's really romantic and perfect for a weekend break. I would not stay anywhere else if visiting Edinburgh again!

What a lovely reception. Everybody was welcoming, professional & couldn't do enough for you. The room was small, but more than enough for our two day stay. The building is is a grade "A" listed building (gives you the info in the room) and Is beautifully modernised, but still has all of the original features.
Breakfast is very good! Plenty to choose from, with attentive & polite staff! Breakfast until 11am, so no rush. Nice & quiet. It is Very close to lots of different restaurants to choose from & a 10 minute walk from the centre of the city! 10/10!

Booked here as we like hotels that we think will offer a more personal stay, we were not disappointed. the hotel is in a good location within walking distance of most places. The reception was warm and friendly and, with advice on how to get to places. we stayed in a top floor room and were asked if that was okay as they don't have a lift. The room was comfortable bed was amazing and so comfy and bathroom clean well laid out.
we eat in blackwood's restaurant which was a treat and glad we did. the service was really good with explanations and recommendations given when asked. the wine choice was very good as well.
food was excellent, this made a great few days in to something we really enjoyed. would definitely recommend this hotel

From start to finish our meal at Blackwood was amazing . From the mussels starter to our prefect cooked Steak it was a fantastic experience.
There was nothing that should or could have done better and would give it 10/10.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2013 via mobile

I really, really wanted to be able to give this hotel five stars, because I was so looking forward to staying here.

I was trying to choose between Nira Caledonia and The Chester Residence in Edinburgh, because both had jacuzzi suites. I chose Nira Caledonia in the end because the staff seemed so completely efficient over email and I couldn't see one bad review on Trip Advisor. This expectation lived up and the welcome was absolutely suberp, the reception was beautiful and we were shown to our room by a lovely genteleman who was absolutely wonderful and should be congratulated for his customer service.

The room (1101), was absolutely beautiful. The jacuzzi bath was unbelievable, everything was spotless, the bed was one of the comfiest I've ever slept in. The room boasted huge bay windows, plenty of wardrobe space and I really loved the personal touches - it really is the little things like personalising the welcome pack that really make a stay special.

The complimentary glasses of Prosecco that were delivered to the room also added that personal touch. My boyfriend and I came to stay for my birthday so it was a really lovely surprise.

The downside was that we ordered room service - two chicken Caesar salads. This was absolutely fine, payment was taken, but once we had unpacked and got comfortable, we got a phonecall from reception to say that there was "no Chef..." - and so the Caesar salads would not be possible. I was really surprised at this. They did offer us sandwiches but it was really disappointing to have not been notified of this in the first instance... and not been told until closer to 9pm, after settling in. Otherwise we would have headed in to the Centre. As well as this, how much more difficult is a Caesar salad to make than a ham and cheese sandwich?

We also ordered breakfast to the room which was a pretty poor effort also. Everything was cold, there was no butter for the toast and the "veggie" option was literally just a cooked breakfast with no sausages or bacon. I would have expected some sort of vegetarian alternative.

All in all the food experience really ruined our stay. I hate complaining, or even writing negative reviews but I did mention it to the receptionists on check out and was surprised not to have been referred to a manager. I was just told that there was "no chef" on a Sunday evening.

I would praise and recommend Nira Caledonia as a place to stay, but it's a shame that the food ruined our trip.

Dear caradunlop
Firsty thank you for taking the time to review our hotel and for the wonderful description of how well our reservations team and front desk staff interacted with you before and during your stay. The room you stayed in was one of our jacuzzi Suites and has been newly refurbished as part of our ongoing rooms refurbishment programme, I'm so glad you found it to your liking.
The news of the "Caesar salad" situation came as a shock to us all as we do not offer Caesar salad on our room service menu , however this should have been corrected at the time you placed your order , so I can only apologise. Please note however that we do offer a full and varied menu on a Sunday for room service and this is documented in our room directory. I have spoken with our Head chef today with regard to your breakfast and we will re visit the vegetarian options for breakfast served in rooms.
I have also spoken to our Reception Manager with regard to your check out as it was he who you spoke with and he felt that he dealt with your points raised and that you seemed happy with the outcome, however your review mentioned you would rather have spoken to a Manager. Please should you wish to contact myself just call the hotel and I will personally speak with you.
Overall it seems you have had a great time at Nira Caledonia and enjoyed our new room, I'm sorry that this small issue has ruined your stay but hope should you visit us again you will allow us the chance to get the "food" right this time.

My weekend stay at the hotel was superb. From the moment we got there, the staff couldn't do more to make sure we had a great experience. They were very professional and friendly which made the experience a bit more special at the hotel.

The room was beautiful and I couldn't get out of bed in the mornings, so confi!
