“Good but a bit expensive!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2014

Had to have a double room as no singles available.(which made it expensive). Nice big room, clean and comfortable. Continental breakfast was adequate. Friendly, helpful staff. Would stay again. Can`t understand the negative comments!

Good location. On site parking and bus stop right at gate. Large room with window seat where you could sit and enjoy the view up to Arthur's Seat. large modern shower room. Limited selection of continental breakfast but adequate. Host and particularly hostess very pleasant. Would not hesitate to stay again

Room Tip: Quite noisy as room overlooking busy road. If this is problem ask for quieter room

Stayed here last weekend for two nights and after reading some of the less than positive reviews on here I was pleasantly surprised! Nice clean, big room with a spacious en suite, free wifi and parking and the staff could not have been more welcoming and friendly.

Good continental breakfast each morning and a bus stop right outside with services straight into the city (about a mile or so if you decide to walk it...)

Would definitely stay there again when visiting!

We stayed for only two nights, and thank God for that!

The room was damp and cold, the sheets were damp too, as were the towels, and they smelled of mold. The toilet didn't flush, and the water in the shower was barely a trickle, and barely warm.

The breakfast was expensive, not worthy of the name English breakfast, and the eggs slimy and cold.

To top it off, a valuable camera lens went missing from our room while we were out for a look around, and the staff couldn't care less. We should have called the police, hindsight is 20/20.

When we got home, we discovered they charged us much more per night than the price we had arranged when booking, plus a number of mysterious other charges, and an extra night when we were already back! We tried to have it refunded, but that never happened. It's an outrage, this business is a fraud.

One of the worst place I ever stayed, and the most expensive.

The owner and staff's attitude is that of the Stasi circa 1979, and if you want to spend the night in something that is a hybrid form of Dickensian nightmare and Soviet hospitality, this is the place for you.

If you want to have good memories of Edinburgh, go somewhere else.

Room Tip: Don't. It's awful.

We stayed for one night for my birthday as were were spending most of the day and night in the centre. We left booking a hotel too late so ended up booking MW guesthouse which I was very nervous about as I'd never stayed in a b n b before. When we arrived to check in and went to our room the size of the room was the size of my living room, bedroom, hallway, bathroom and shower room in my house!!! It was huge, high ceilings, chandelier, huge windows, huge bed, very clean and modern bathroom. I have nothing negative to say. There is a bus stop right outside that takes you into the centre in 10 mins at £1.50 or a taxi is only £7. The breakfast room was very clean and modern and a good continental selection of food.

Stayed here for 4 nights, how this place got awarded 4* is a mystery!
Placed on the corner of a main road and a cul de sac, the road is busy and noisy however its an easy bus ride in to the city centre. The rooms are drap and uninviting, the first room we were offered was at the back of the house, the ensuite faced the road and had no blind, the toilet was dirty and had feaces splattered in the bowl, the room it self had only dirty net curtains on the window, the bed linen was clean, however the duvet and pillows were old and grubby. We were offered a second room at the top of the house, which was a slight improvment, but was very cold, in fact the whole house was very cold and the heating didn't appear to have been turned on. There was no where to sit in the room other than the on the bed. The 'complementary' breakfast was uninspiring.....and unvaried during our stay and there was no flexability with the time 8-9.
I got the impression that no staff members were resident, if you needed the owners you had to ring them, in fact we felt a little unsafe, definatly would NOT stay there again.

Highly recommended. We were nervous about our booking at MW Townhouse because of the mixed reviews. After a three night stay we could not find one fault. The staff were friendly and really helpful; the rooms are spacious, modern and clean; and the location is perfect - only a bus ride to the city centre from the stop outside the door. And they had parking for our car. From our travels around the UK, MW Townhouse was one of the best we encountered.
