If you are looking for a romantic gateway in Edinburgh, staying in Abercorn Guest House will be a cherry that you put on the top of your stay. This place is situated 10 minutes away from town, only 2 minutes of walk from the beach (where you can collect shells) and sit on the bench and feel the power of the sea. Each of the rooms is beautifuly decorated and clean. Breakfast personaly prepared by the lovely hostess Mrs Angela McDonald and her crew taste even better if you sit in the glass patio with a view to the garden. We had such a great time, walking around the city, castle, botanic gardens, the beach.....and then a good sleep in such a cozy place. Thank you Mrs McDonald very much! Zuzana & Martin

Not only is the Abercorn a first rate guest house, with elegant, comfortable rooms and an excellent breakfast, but Angela and her family were fantastic to our family allowing us to use their facilities to host a hastly arranged wedding celebration. Can't rate this accommodation highly enough.

We have just had a superb weekend at the Abercorn Guest House staying with Angela and her family. The weather was atrocious but the welcome received by my husband and myself from Angela and her family was second to none.

The room and the en suite facilities were exceptional and every need catered for. There was plenty of choice at breakfast which was served with a smile and a chat and anything you needed to know for your day out was answered and advice offered if needed.

All in all, what could have been a dismal weekend turned out to be a very enjoyable one. If we are ever visiting Edinburgh again, this is where we would stay, it was no problem being three miles from Edinburgh as the bus service is fantastic and we had many a chat with the bus drivers who were very helpful.

Our long weekend stay in Edinburgh was certainly enriched by the quality of the accomodation.

The Abercorn Guest House was a little way out of the centre, but gave me and my 3 companions an opportunity to see a bit more of the city and a chance to visit the seaside town of Portobello.

We stayed in the family room with all the standard tea / toilet / tele facilities, but the hospitality from Angela and her family was what made our stay memorable.

The breakfast was superb and the recommendations on what to see and do, meant that we had a lovely weekend.

If we ever visit Edinburgh again, this is the only place we would stay.

  • Liked — The hospitality
  • Disliked — The location - just a little bit closer to the city would have been better

My girlfriend and I stayed here on our Spring Break in March and can't wait to go back. Our trip included visits to London, Edinburgh, and we were in Dublin for St. Patrick's Day. All of that aside, we both agreed that the highlight of the trip was staying with Angela at the Abercorn Guest House. We loved Edinburgh and the convenience of the Abercorn. The wonderful B&B was located about 30seconds from the bus into the city centre and the bus was incredibly easy to use.

When we arrived, Angela cordially greeted us and gave us the choice of rooms, all of which were spectacular (and a huge step up from the hotel we stayed at in London which was more expensive as well). She then interrupted her meeting to show us a map and give us her recommendations on where to go in the city and how to get there. Breakfast was well planned and delicious. Guests chose when they wanted to eat so they could eat in privacy if they so wished which was kind of treat since it allowed my girlfriend and I to talk one on one with Angela and learn about her family and tell her about ours.

Angela's service was spectacular and no matter how busy, she would stop and take the time to show my girlfriend and I places on the map or give us directions on how to get where. We definitely plan on a repeat trip in the near future and have been talking about going back since we left. The great breakfast, combined with location, price, and the superb quality of service makes the Abercorn one of the best places I have ever stayed both in Europe and in the U.S.
