We were quite footloose and fancy-free during our 2-1/2 week driving trip around the UK, and had decided that we would like to spend one night in Edinburgh. We drove past the Abercorn Guest House and liked what we saw - a "Vacancy" sign - so rang the doorbell. We were greeted by Angela and Wally and made to feel so welcome, it was absolutely wonderful! Angela almost talked us out of staying, apologising profusely because the only room she had left was quite small. We chatted, and chatted, and were made to feel so welcome, that we said "Just let us get our bags out of the car, and we are staying!"
After we had unloaded the car and starting getting sorted in our room, there was a knock on the door and Angela appeared with two drams of "ten year old" - just to welcome us to Scotland!
We had a fantastic breakfast, then easily found our way into the city via the local bus - with very specific instructions from our resident tour director, Angela! We decided we wanted to stay an extra night, and were readily accommodated.
The next morning, we enjoyed another wonderful breakfast and with tears in our eyes, bade farewell to Angela and Wally. We also got to say goodbye to their two beautiful King Charles Caveliers, Molly and Charlie, who were allowed out of the back room to get a goodbye pat.
All in all, it was the most enjoyable B&B experience we have had anywhere in the world, and we've already told them that next time we're in town, we'll be staying at the Abercorn Guest House! We've also invited Angela and Wally to look us up if they can ever arrange a trip "Down Under".
Cheers!
