My husband and I spent two nights, 10th and 11th August, at the Abercorn Guest House. Angela, the owner, gave us a very warm welcome and we felt at home straight away. Our room was immaculate, comfortable and very stylish. There were two individual bottles of wine in the room, red and white, and when she found out that we preferred white they were immediately changed to white. The breakfasts were well cooked from local produce and very plentiful. We did not eat again until the evening as they sustained 2 people, that like their food, until an early evening dinner. Parking is very plentiful on the road outside, a real plus for visiting Edinburgh.
It was very unusual to spend the day in the very bustling city of Edinburgh (there is a frequent bus service just outside the door, £2.50 for an all day ticket) then be able to walk along Portobello beach prom in the evening. We found Portobello a facinating contrasting area. You wouldn't want to spend your summer holiday there but as a base its brilliant. There are adequate restaurants in the area but if you want something a bit better I would go into the city to eat, but then you wouldn't get your seaside stroll afterwards.
This was a marvellous short break so enhanced by Angela's warm humourous approach and beautiful house. Any trip to Edinburgh must begin with the Abercorn. Where else would you naturally get a cuddle and a peck on the cheek when you leave because you automatically feel part of the Abercorn family.
Thanks very much Angela - Chris and Terry
