We had the delightful opportunity to spend a week at the Abercorn B&B after locating it on Tripadvisor.co. Our stay turned out to be one of the most positive travel experiences in Scotland that we have ever had, as proprietors Angela and Bill MacDonald welcomed us with their friendly hospitality, their beautiful, immaculate accommodations, excellent homemade breakfasts, and friendly ways.
Conveniently located approximately 15-20 minutes from Edinburgh City Center and a stone's throw from the North Sea, the Abercorn is everything you could possible want in lodging. Located directly across the street from neighborhood stores, restaurants, a post office drop, an interesting tie maker and Bus Stop 26, the Abercorn's location is desirable year round. Outside gardens make the grounds particularly lovely and a perfect spot for watching birds and other wildlife. Visitors may enjoy the attributes of Edinburgh's City life and, also, the serenity of this lovely home and gardens.
The McDonald's obviously enjoy what they do and do it very well. We were made to feel extremely welcomed by Bill, Angela, their children and Angela's father who is a delightful gentleman.
They were always attentive to our travel needs, arranging for taxis, restaurant reservations, tours and even taking care of a crisis when we left a bag of souveniers at a restaurant one evening.
We happened to be staying at the Abercorn during our wedding week (we were married at the Edinburgh Castle) and Angela was instrumental in helping us arrange for flowers and a luncheon following the event. Our 11 year old daughter felt right at home at this lovely Guest House (so much that she is planning her own honeymoon there!)
Our feelings are so strong that should we return to Scotland, we would definitely stay there again and will encourage others to do the same. This is one B & B you don't want to miss.
