The Abercorn Guest House is the most fabulous, friendly and welcoming home in Scotland. We have stayed with this wonderful family numerous times (two or three times a year for many years). Angela and her family are the most delightful you will ever meet. The accomodations are decorated with the most gorgeous fabrics and excellent taste. But the MacDonald family provide an incredible warmth and care. The breakfasts are superb and you will fall in love with the family. We plan our trips around Abercorn's availability. A must stay!

We stayed in the Abercorn Guest House for a long weekend and it was wonderful. Angela made us feel at home stright away. The food was superb and the rooms bright and comfortable. The bus to the city centre was directly out side and the beach a 3 min walk away.

If you are planning on going to Edinburgh stay with Angela in the Abercorn Guest House you certainly won't regret it and as we found it will probably make your holiday all the more perfect.

My only regret was not being able to stay longer. I am looking forward to going back.

Great place to stay for a romantic weekend! Angela was great and the Scotish breakfast was awesome. Rooms are also great. The only downside is that the hotel is located like 20 minutes by bus to the center city. But overall, definitely a great place to stay for a couple of nights!! I would do it again, if I am back in Edinburgh! MO - Chicago, USA

Inspired by the reviews here at trip advisor, we booked two nights at the Abercorn Guest House.

As almost expected, so many recommendations can't go wrong.

We had such a pleasant stay.

Angela is a wonderful host, and her dad is such an adorable person.
What a refreshment to meet such nice people.

When we arrived we were welcomed with a nice and hot cup of tea/coffee.
Angela gave us a most wonderful dinner recommendation (Select Fine Cuisine, just some steps away).

The breakfast was wonderful, and there was a really nice and warm atmosphere in the whole house.

The location is brilliant, it is only some yards to the sand beach of Portobello.

Buses run every ten minutes to the city center (Lothian 26), the ride takes a bit more than ten minutes to Princess Street.
The bus tickets are pretty cheap, they are £ 1 p.p. per way, or £ 2.50 for a day ticket.

We will defintely come back!

  • Liked — Friendliness, atmosphere, great breakfast
  • Disliked — there wasn't really anything that wasn't okay!

This is a beautiful building in a lovely area, a short way outside the centre of Edinburgh. The area is very quiet and just a couple of minutes walk from a lovely sandy beach. Angela, your hostess at Abercorn, is delightfully chatty and welcoming. It felt like we'd known each other for years. Also, Angela is very knowledgable about the local area and Edinburgh town centre, so she can provide great suggestions and recommendations about what to do during your stay.
The house is immaculately clean, warm and inviting, and the rooms are beautifully decorated. The beds are very comfortable and once you manage to drag yourself out of them, the breakfast that meets you downstairs was delicious and stylishly presented.
We had a wonderful weekend and would gladly stay there again. In fact, we didn't really want to leave.
A lot of work has been put into the house and it has produced a lovely result, but Angela tells me they still have plans for further improvements. The only minor problem was low-pressure in the shower (common in Edinburgh), but it was not unreasonably low and they were clean and had plenty of hot-water.

  • Liked — Friendly atmosphere and service
  • Disliked — Shower pressure
