What can I say, a marvellous house and the most wonderful hosts Angela and William. We stayed there over Christmas and enjoyed a fantastic time in Edinburgh. The whole house was lovely, so warming and clean and had great decor. Angela was so very friendly, relaxed and funny and extremely helpful. We were even invited to have photo's in her very own living room with the most gorgeous christmas tree, so very personal and kind.

Breakfast was superb, will most certainly go back to stay there and would recommend it to anybody visiting Edinburgh. Only a short bus ride away from the city centre.

Love it, Love it, Love it.

My husband and I have just returned from a fabulous 3 night stay at Abercorn Guest House. This accommodation was highly recommended to us by friends from work and we certainly were not disappointed. Angela was a delightful host. Nothing was too much trouble for her to do for the guests. The rooms were spotless and furnished to a very high standard. Each day we found added little extras in our room such as packets of biscuits and chocolates. The choice of food for breakfast was very extensive and would suit anybody and everybody. Each evening you handed in your choice for breakfast the next day, which allowed a very personal menu for everyone. Angela and her family make you feel very welcome and special throughout your stay and their knowledge of the surrounding neighbourhood is invaluable. The convenience of the bus service into Edinburgh from outside the guest house was brilliant and allowed us to be free from using the car throughout our visit. We will certainly be visiting Angela and her family again and will readily recommend their accommodation to friends and family.

  • Liked — The friendliness and openness of Angela

Angela Mc Donald is a terrific and friendly hostess who instantly makes you feel at home. The house and rooms are truly lovely, there is a wonderful glassed-in winter garden where you can eat breakfast or enjoy a cup of afternoon tea. The breakfast is fabulous! Every evening you turn in a checked-off list of what you would like to have for breakfast the following morning.

While we were there, Angela mentioned that they were going to buy new furniture for some or all of the rooms. Which brings me to the only thing I did not find wonderful about the house/room: the mattress on the double bed ( we had a room for 4) was not super comfortable, but this mattress may have been replaced by now. One should also be aware that due to traffic during the day, the bus ride into Edinburgh took about 25-30 minutes, not 15. But the busses are frequent and the bus stop is right outside The Abercorn so it is very easy and convenient. The nearby beach promenade is nice, so be sure to take a liitle walk down there. (Only 2 blocks away). Portobello is a quiet and peaceful area, so of you want to get away from city noise, this is the place to be.

It was our daughter's birthday while we were there, and on the morning of her birthday there was a card and a huge box of candies from Angela and her husband outside our door. This shows what a thoughtful and warm person Angela really is. She was always ready with good advice and a cheery hello to start you off on you day.

  • Liked — Wonderful hostess, lovely home, peaceful and quiet
  • Disliked — 25 minute busride to Edinburgh

Returning to Edinburgh is always a pleasure, but if to that we add Abercorn, it becomes perfection!
Angela is probably one of the nicest people I've ever met and one that knows the language of smiles very well!!
Besides being a beautiful house, Abercorn is perfectly located in the centre of Portobello (15 minutes by bus to the city centre - bus stop at the door. REALLY, at the door!), close to shops, supermarket, restaurants and beach.
If you ever go to Edi, don't look for any other place to stay. This is the perfect one! Thank you,Angela and family!

Well, what can we say about Abercorn? Absolutely Fabulous!

We have been staying with Angie and her lovely family for the last 8 years. We have always found the accommodation wonderful, the breakast second to none, especially being serendaded by Rod Stewart!! and Angie's local knowledge of the area invaluable. She makes us feel like long lost friends and delighted us when she rang on the morning of our wedding to wish us well! How lovely of her to remember the date!!

We are on our way to her again tomorrow and are really excited to see the whole family again.
