Stayed at Chancellor's Court which is part of the "campus" at Pollock halls in Edinburgh. It cost around £90 per night which may sound pricey to some but it really isnt considering we stopped in mid August which is prime time for the Fringe festival (which we were there for) and other events and other hotels were much more expensive. Some people may say the rooms were small but I would say adequate as I wasnt planning a roller disco in there. Our rooms had a small TV, kettle and were ensuite. All rooms were well maintained and clean.
Breakfast and Dinner were included in the price we paid which is what made this stay a real bargainBreakfast was great. Large selection of the normal "English" bacon and eggs type, cereals, pancake, porridge, toast, kippers etc. All were self service and have as much as you want.Dinner was the same self service type affair (think motorway services here) and provides enough sustinance for the night ahead with help yourself salad, carved meats, and a small selection of puddings (watch out the eclairs go really fast).
The good and the bad....Breakfast can get a bit crowded with several hundred people descending on the breakfast hall at the same time so best to get there early. It's slightly out from the city centre, probably about 25-30 mins hilly walk from Princes street or the castle. That said the campus has its own benefits with less drunks hammering past your room in the early hours of the morning. Also Taxis are frequently at the entrance and it costs about £6 to get into town and a bus service is close by too so distance isnt too much of an obstacle.
Overall a pleasant stay and i'd happily stay there again just as soon as I have got over the bad jokes from the comedy fest.
