“A Wonderful Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2008

What a wonderful gem the Adria House is. We stayed for 4 nights in rooms that were airy and spaceous with a gorgeous view together with a very cozy and comfortable common area. Our hosts Maria and Edward were most helpful and knowledgeable. It is centrally located, less than a 10 minute walk to either Princess St. or The Royal Mile and loads of eateries in the area. It was by far the best B&B we stayed at during our entire month of travelling throughout the U.K.

Spent a lovely school holiday weekend away with my two daughters and the Adria was a perfect choice!
Arrived early on the Friday morning to a very warm welcome by the friendly owners who kept our luggage safe before our room was ready. We strolled off to Our Dynamic Earth and the Scottish Parliament which was only a few minutes walking distance away from the lovely Royal Terrace. On our return, we were shown to a large room containing 2 separate bedrooms ( one twin bedded room and one double bedded room) with a separate mini lounge area with tv etc. Breakfasts were adequate and tasty and set us up for the days exploring. After a busy Saturday , we set off down to the Playhouse and managed to get 3 last minute tickets to see Mary Poppins at the theatre! Again, the Adria is minutes away from the theatre and Omni centre so is perfectly placed.A blustery Sunday morning took us up to the top of the Calton Hill for wonderful views across the city and again , our luggage was kept safe until our return later in the day for our journey home. This was a lovely weekend, staying in a lovely Georgian property with owners who know the meaning of good service! Well Done and Thank You.

We enjoyed out stay during the festival. The location is great in a quiet neighborhood. The building is very impressive, especially the lounge with high ceiling and piano.
Room was comparably big with an nice view of the garden in the back.
Very friendly staff.
Standard breakfast, we would have liked more variety though.
Altogether a very agreeable experience

My wife and I just returned from a 8-day stay at the Adria House. We were in Edinburgh to enjoy the Festival and I can't tell you how much our festival experience was enhanced by Adria House. Edward's friendly helpfulness and Maria's charming efficiency together made for a great 'home-away-from-home' experience. An elegant and stately heritage Georgian building, large and well appointed rooms, quiet and peaceful spaces (we stayed in a room facing the garden), free wireless internet, full scottish breakfasts and hosts who go the extra mile effortlessly. Edward in fact set the pace for our stay by lugging two large and heavy suitcases up two flights of stairs (we came to Edinburgh after a one-week whisky trail and our bags were laden with whisky) without even being requested. Plus, the place is brilliantly located. Restaurants within five minutes. Princes Street in 10 mins, Calton Hill (brilliant view of Edinburgh) just around the corner. We never had to use public transport. We could walk everywhere from Adria. I can't recommend it too heartily and fully intend to come back again and again.

  • Liked — Friendly good cheer in an ambience of stately elegance
  • Disliked — Nothing really.

We stayed at the Adria based on the recommendations here but must say that whilst everything is OK, we failed to see the greatness that earns the high ratings.
The Adria is very elegant, with high ceilings, spacious rooms furnished in appropriate style and everything is correct. Location is also good being on Calton Hill just a few minutes from the East End of Princes St.
On the negative side there is dificulty parking nearby at certain times of day so don't come by car except at weekends or strictly overnight, charges start at 8.30am
They have had some difficulty adapting the elegant room to be practical in 2008. The bathroom was crammed into the corner of the room, the TV and kettle perch incongruously on the old furniture.
Breakfast is standard B&B, nothing exceptional but everything correct.
We paid £45 per night which could only be justified as it is central Edinburgh

Very clean and comfortable, the rooms are large. I felt like at home for two nights. The staff is very friendly. To get anything better, one has to pay at least double.

I just got back from a 4 days stay at the Adria House, and I strongly recommend to use this lovely B&B as base to discover the city or on business. It's located a short walk from the panoramic views of Calton Hill and 10 mins walk to Princess Street.
The rooms are VERY spacious and spotlessly clean. I booked a double and a triple, the double was huge and instead of the triple we were given 2 rooms one with double bed for my parents and one with twin beds for myself with a lounge with tv and bathroom with shower.
The breakfast menu is modest but good; you can choose between cereals, porridge or cooked breakfast prepared at the moment.
There is a living room on the ground floor with a beautiful piano, tv and also a pc for internet, it's free, you're only asked to leave something for a charity organisation that reserch cure for Altzeimer.
Maria and Edward, the hosts, gave us a warm welcome after a long day of travelling and have always greeted us with a smile and were always up for a chat. They keep things simple and efficent at a price that is very competitive.
There is no doubt on where I will stay on my next visit to Edinburgh.
