We booked into the Premier Inn for 2 nights over Hogmanay as it was reasonably priced at one of their busiest times of the year, and centrally located.
The reception staff were extremely friendly and although we were 2 hrs early for check in they stored our bags and lent us a large umbrella to take on our explorations of the city. When we handed this back after our walk they were most surprised and said most people don't bother to give them back!!
The room was warm and comfortable with a huge bed.
The only thing I would like to see would be more tea bags and milk, if you have a cup in the afternoon/evening there are none left for the morning. I know we could have asked but really, why not just put more out, it seems a bit mean not to.
The other thing is that in the bathroom there are no toiletries other than a body wash/shampoo dispenser and a handwash dispenser. If you're expecting an other items forget it, take your own.
Breakfast is very good value, £8.25 for a full buffet style cooked breakfast and service with a smile.
Two restaurants we tried locally were Il Castello, an Italian that served good simple pizza/past style food, and the Double Tree by Hilton which did a very good fillet steak for £20 in pleasant surroundings.
If you have the time you should go to the Royal Yacht Britannia, a very interesting and well thought out visitor experience.
