My friend and I stayed at The Beverley in Edinburgh for the first three days of our month visit to The Highlands in Scotland from the USA. It was a perfect beginning to a marvelous month. The Beverley is very conveniently located in a quiet area just five to ten minutes from the center of Edinburgh by any of at least four buses which stop right down the block. The terraced house is large and gracious, with a huge beautiful foyer and lovely dining room. The rooms are large and well appointed with comfortable beds and attractive decor. Our twin room (all are en suite) was on the top (3rd) floor. There was a big skylight in the bathroom, and the large bedroom had a tall bay window with a great view. Since we were there when the days were long (still light after 11PM) we appreciated the heavy drapes which kept the room pitch dark when closed. Breakfasts were delicious with superb service by very friendly staff. Judy (the proprietress) was thoroughly knowledgable of the area and was so generous and helpful whether for making suggestions, giving directions, or discussing local culture, history or events. She was so warm and welcoming that we felt at home immediately. Both Judy and her husband Hutch far exceeded our high expectations of the friendliness of the Scottish people. We felt that no request would be too much for them to do for us. Someday I'd love to return to Edinburgh and I would hope to stay at The Beverley again. Make your reservations far in advance, especially for August during the fastivals, as the rooms fill up fast in this outstanding B&B.
