We loved these apartments and would recommend anyone who is thinking of booking their stay here to go for it!!!

We stayed for 3 nights at the beginning of May as we managed to get a really good deal with Expedia where we paid for 2 nights and got the third night for free so it worked out at less than 85GBP per night (250GBP in total), which was about the same as some of the hotels we were looking at. We decided to go for this option rather than a hotel as the apartment had kitchen facilities meaning that we could save a bit of money by cooking the odd meal, making our own breakfast etc.

What a great decision! The apartment was spot on! Although we only paid for a 1-bedroom apartment, when we arrived they checked us into a massive 2-bed apartment. When booking I stated that I would prefer not to be located on the ground floor and although we only booked the day before we arrived, they were able to accommodate my request and we were placed on the 2nd floor - so if you have any preferences like that it is definitely worth asking!

The apartment had a huge open plan lounge/kitchen/diner with flat-screen TV (with sky sports & movies channels), dvd player, cd/radio, and full kitchen facilities including dishwasher, washing machine, microwave etc etc. The master bedroom had en-suite with a king-size bed and another flatscreen TV; the second bedroom had 2 twin-beds and another flatscreen. You could even pipe the stereo through to the speakers in the bedroom if you wanted to listen to music whilst getting ready!

The continental breakfast that is included consists of a loaf of bread, butter, jam, cereals, milk, coffee, tea, juice and yogurts which are left in your apartment by the cleaners each day.

The apartments were a little bit out of the city centre - probably about a 20 minute walk from Princes Street or the Royal Mile, but if walking isn't your thing there are loads of buses that go from either Gilmore Place, Home Street or outside the Cargo restaurant. It is only 1 pound per journey or 2.50 for a day bus pass.

We found these apartments were a great base from which to explore the lovely city of Edinburgh and will definitely stay there again when we return!

My mother and I stayed in these appartments in April 2007. We had a two bedroom appartment and it was a nice surprise to find that there were two bathrooms too. There is also free interenet access which is nice if you mange to get connected. I didn't, but it was very probably my own fault. Bascially I agree with all the previous reviewers: the place is very clean, modern, spacious and really feels like a home away from home. However it's really quite a distance from the city center . So be prepared to pay about 5-7 pounds for a one way taxi ride. In my case it was't a big problem as I got a great deal at the Expedia having payed only 440 Euros for three nights ( and this is about their standard daily rate).
The conclusion is: I wouldn't bother staying there for the full price. Would go to the Scotsman or the Radisson just to save myself some time and money, but if I found another special offer like that I'd definitely go back to EQ2. Whan it comes to quiteness and comfort they are second to none.

Just returned from staying at the EQ2 apartments, after staying for three nights on a City Break to Edinburgh.
All I can say is that is was superb. Like I said in the title If you are not bothered about having a swim, then this is the way forward.
The apartments are situated next to the canal, a five minute taxi ride from either Edinburgh train station. The place is very secure with various keys gaining you access to various parts of the building.
The apartment itself was extremely impressive. All kitchen mod cons, widescreen TV's, DVD player and sound system, king size bed. It was like a home from home and very enjoyable. Highly recommened and great to have a fridge rather than put your bottles of wine and beer in an ice bucket or in the bath!!

Stayed at the EQ2 Apartments in October last year. Would definately recommend it, over staying at a Hotel. The Apartment we were given was extremely spacious, two bedrooms, bathrooms with an ensuite in one of the bedrooms and kitchen/living room. There was a large plasma tv in the living room, with smaller ones in the bedrooms.

The Apartment was cleaned every day, with bread, milk, yogurts and a small cereal left in the fridge. Plus there is plenty of tea and coffee there for your use. Reception was very helpful and when we requested check out at 12 noon (check out is usually at 11.00 a.m.), they were happy to oblige and also ordered a taxi for us.

One other thing, would not recommend the Cargo Restaurant near our Apartments, if you are going for a meal out, you should definately go somewhere in the City Centre.

Only small disadvange with staying at the EQ2 Apartments is that you are talking about a good fifteen minute walk to Princes Street. However, if i was going to Edinburgh again, i would definately pick the EQ2 Apartments over a Hotel nearer the City Centre.

Just back from a 4 night stay over Hogmanay 2006/7 in Edinburgh. Excellent value apartments or aparthotel in what is a newly developed location near a canal.
Our party comprised us - a couple, our sixteen year old & ten year old and my mother. 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms (1 en suite), good sized living room & dining-kitchen. We felt we had plenty of space & loads compared to many hotel rooms. It really felt like a home from home especially on grey wet winter days when you need somewhere cosy to come back to. It was also very clean & well cared for. My husband found the lack of pictures on the walls a bit spartan but this was a very minor niggle. We also had a great view of the castle.
Modern good quality comfortable beds & furniture. Kitchen very well equipped with washer drier, dishwasher, microwave, cooker & hob. New pans & equipment. My teenager & ten year old loved the four flat screen TVs, DVD & you can borrow a play station from reception (in fact reception was set up in one of the apartments).
Apartment re-stocked daily with cereals, yogurts, jams & butter, milk, bread, biscuits. I also liked the fact that kitchen roll, tea, coffee, sugar, salt, pepper, washing up liquid, dishwasher tabs & laundry tabs as well as loo paper of course are all provided & restocked. Makes self catering much easier. I organised an internet shop on our arrival from Sainsbury's which worked well.
Service at reception friendly & efficient, daily cleaning & beds made up.
A laptop could be borrowed, but was being used elsewhere when we asked, a minor improvement would be to have a couple of PCs or laptops set up in reception which would enable their usage to be better shared.
Only downside is the 10-15 minute walk to Princes St & a slight feeling of being away from town centre, but I think this is a really small disadvantage given all the plus points for the accomodation.

I definitely recommend this accommodation esp for families.

  • Liked — Really nice apartment & value for money
  • Disliked — A bit edge of town
  • Tips/Secrets: — Walk past Cargo restaurant & you are only 2 minutes walk from the Lothian Rd
