I stayed at EQ2 with my father and nephew for 1 night on the 10th August as we visited Edinburgh to see the Military Tattoo.

I use Tripadvisor a lot and I spent quite some considerable time looking around for a suitable place to stay before I booked anything. I have also been to Edinburgh 3 times before and the EQ2 apartments were definately the best place I have stayed to date, regardless of price.

I booked a 2 twin bedded apartment but on arrival we were upgraded to a 3 bedroom apartment, (unit 3 which was on the first floor of the block with the main reception in it where the balcony from the lounge area hung nicely out over the canal).

The apartment was very roomy, modern and was fitted with every facility we wanted - especially considering our age range was 15 through 65. Everything worked and all was spotlessly clean.

Breakfast basics were provided although there is a small supermarket about 5 minutes walk away for any further groceries you need.

The walk in to the Royal Mile, Princess street and the Castle were very accessible and it was actually nice to get back out of the busy main area and go for a walk along the canal bank which in itself can be interesting.

I have absolutely no complaints to make about the EQ2 apartments and would thoroughly recommend them to anyone else.

The only word of caution I would make is that when I phoned the reception a few days earlier and mentioned I would be driving and enquired about parking - (there is free secure underground parking on site) - I was advised that their experience is that many main brand sat nav systems may not locate the property as it is so new. This turned out to be the case, though only by a couple of streets away in another part of the wider building complex. A conversation with a couple of local friendly builders soon pointed me in the right direction!

  • Liked — Quality of facilities for the price
  • Disliked — Little bit hard to find using sat nav
  • Tips/Secrets: — Arrive in the daylight when more people are about to ask directions

Where do I start?

Arrived on 1st Aug to EDI and then got a taxi to the apartments this cost £15.00 and the taxi driver knew exactly where it was, i was prepared to show him the map I had printed out from previous advise on here from other reviewers.

Check in was easy, even though I had already pre paid for the apartment had to leave credit card details, I think this was incase we broke anything. We booked a one bed apartment but were upgraded and ended up with a two bedroom on the groundfloor (No 15).

I think we was lucky as this was much bigger than we expected and by the looks of the other apartments it was a much larger one.

Im so glad I booked an apartment instead of a hotel as the space was welcomed after walking around Edinburgh all day and just coming back and sinking into the huge leather sofas.
The location was excellent far enough away from the hustle and bustle of the centre and you could actually get a table in the nearby restuarants not like on one night we decided to walk into the centre (around the royal mile) and couldnt find anywhere with a free table, so ended up in a nice Italian just off princess street, my advise is if you do this to go early as we went about 8pm.
Its about a 20min walk to the royal mile and same with the middle of Princess street, about a 10min walk to the castle.

I just didnt want to come home! Definatly recommend these apartments.

I stayed almost a month in Edinburgh for a convention at FC Apts EQ-2.

The Apartments are located in a neighbourghood that's being completely rebuilt, so you sometimes feel surrounded by constructions sites. That said, the location is extremely convenient if you are attending a convention or business meeting (less than 10 min. walk from EI convention center), not that great is you need to be around the New Town or the Train Station. Lots of shops/restaurants within walking distance.

The Apartments have all the facilities you need to feel at home, and even invite guests to dinner or party so it's great value specially if you are staying more than a week. I stayed in a Duplex, and the only (minor) problem for us where that you get no phones in the rooms, just one phone in the living room (not even cordless). Very inconvenient: you just could not hear it or had to rush downstairs.

We stayed there for 5 nights at the beginning of July. We stayed in a 1 bedroom suite which was very nice with all the conveniences. There is a washing machine that doubles has a dryer, compare to the North American machines these take a little while to do a load and are fairly small. There is a dryer (stand) also supplied which I found work great for some items. Unfortunatly all the 1 bedroom are on the ground floor, I was looking forward to possibly having a balcony. After travelling in the rest of Europe for a week it was nice to have a home away from home.

There is a small supermarket not very far and we even picked up some frozen dinners one night and just zapped them for dinner. There is bar / restaurant (Cargo) right down the canal where we had a great dinner and the price was fairly reasonable.

The bus runs right in front of Cargo, so we tried the bus when we went to visit the Britania, but we walked to most of the places.

This would be a great place for a family with kids, it is on a small canal and most mornings there were ducks on the Canal.

The taxi driver did not know about the place and even when I gave him the address he didn't know where it was. Luckily I had printed the directions from their website and just gave it to him and then no problem! I would definitly recommend you print them before hand.

We staying for two nights whilst visiting Edinburgh, there were 4 adults and one 14 month old staying in a two bedroom apartment.

The apartment was beautifully furnished and decorated, as other reviews have mentioned they even restock the fridge each day with orange juice, bread, milk, yogurt and other essentials, all free of charge.

Our little one just loved having a free run of the place, and we found it very relaxing compared to the hotel rooms we'd been staying in previously. The location is ideal, tucked away in a very quiet area, but only a ten minute walk to Princess Street, and the castle.

The only negative feedback i can provide is the lack of DVDs available to borrow, I recommend you bring some from home. That just goes to show how great the place is.
