“Lovely walk”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2013

Lovely walk along Portobello Beach today with my son. Great for splashing along the waters edge with your wellies on and collecting shells.

“lovely stroll on a nice beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2013

Portobello beach is about 20 mins on a bus from the city centre. There are 2 buses from the city centre Lothian Buses numbers 26 and 15 and both very frequent. Once you arrive in Portobello it is a quick 5 minute walk to get to the beach. On the promenade there are families with children, dogs and cyclists enjoying the great walk and the views across to Fife. The beach itself is clean. Food choices range from a pub which is child friendly, a coffee shop and the traditional fish n chips. Portobello beach is well worth visit for a different aspect of Edinburgh.

“Seaside fun”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 2, 2013

Beautiful day at the beach! Kids digging in the sand, adults drinking coffee from "beach house" cafe right on the prom. Sail boat out in the water and a glorious sky.
Walked the length of the prom - slowly enjoying the atmosphere. Busking accordion player adding bags of atmosphere.
Lovely, relaxing afternoon.

“Lovely surprise at the edge of the city”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 1, 2013

I went here based on the reviews of others and I wasn't disappointed - the prom is a lovely accessible walk. It seems popular with mums and tots and also dog walkers. The beach looks clean and it's easy to walk at the waters edge in safety. There is a fabulous Victorian 'water centre' the pool is lovely and it retains the original features and even has bathrooms - not a feature of the modern centres. Is easy to get here from Princes Street on the number 26 - it costs £1.40 and the buses are frequent, it took about 30 mins. For the more energetic a walk is about an hour. There's plenty of places to sit and have a coffee and watch the world go by when you get there - will definitely go again on my next visit

“surprisingly good - but the sun was shining!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

Used the fantastic Lothian buses for a Sunday trip out to the beach, great int he sunshine. Lots of families with buckets and spades making sandcastles, even a few hardy souls braving the water. An old fashioned seaside feel, ice creams and fish and chips most enjoyable. A real treat and so close to the city centre.
