We recently celebrated our tenth anniversary in Scotland, and began our vacation in Edinburgh at Southside. Lynn was very kind in arranging flowers and wine for our room, which was comfortable and immaculately clean. Our room was large enough to include a small sofa, and the bath was far larger than we expected. Very nice art on the walls, and all of the furnishings tastefully done. Breakfasts were excellent, and Franco pampered me with delicious lattes. Both of our hosts were very helpful and welcoming. We used both buses and taxis, which were reasonable in price, although in good weather it's a very pleasant walk to the Royal Mile. If we are fortunate enough to return to Edinburgh, we would most certainly hope to stay at Southside again.

The owners are wonderful hosts and are very welcoming and helpful. The breakfast food is superb and an enjoyable experience. The house is spotlessly clean and the facilities first class. The decor is dramatic with deep colours which may not be to everyone's taste, but that is a personal judgement.
There is no parking available nearby, we had to park several streets away and abandon our car which we were unhappy about. However the upside of this is that the local bus service is excellent.
In bedroom number 8 on the ground floor there is no nightime ventilation because the french windows open directly onto the garden. In bedroom number 5 there is a water pump situated in a cupboard and evertime someone turns on a tap the water pump is activsted quite noisily.

From the moment we were greeted by name by Franco to the moment the taxi, ordered for us, came to collect us, we felt like old friends.
The room was wonderful, as were all the paintings around the house. Everything combined to make a very special place to stay. The breakfast, I can honestly say, was the best I have had in a long time and I have stayed in many places both in the UK and abroad. Every thought had been given to fresh ingredients both on the buffet and the cooked meal. Couldn't fault it. Thank you!
