The Glenallan Guest House (Now Known As The Cresent) (19 Mayfield Road, Edinburgh)
Arrived there at Midday, had to ring the doorbell for about 10 minutes before someone came and answered. We were greeted by a young woman in her Dressing gown and PJ's.
Upon arrival we were told that we couldnt check in until 3pm.
Rooms were nice looking, although we had booked a double and got a twin instead.
There was no meat at breakfast but it was advertised on the website as serving "full Scottish breakfast" there may have been religious or moral grounds for not serving meat but that's no excuse.
We were charged an extra 4.9% for using a debit/credit card to pay for our stay, which is not advertised until you read the "welcome" sheet in your room.
Electrical appliances in the rooms (TV, Iron, Hairdryer, Digi-Box) had not passed electrical safety tests since 2010 and were past their next service due dates.
The iron had a bare live wire, and was full of limescale
Toilet did not flush properly
Shower was a decent size but could've been a bit bigger.
Service was non-existent, No-one was around when you needed something, and when you did ask for something it was as if you had asked for one of their kidneys or something.
There was no Television remote in the room, "remotes can be obtained from reception for £20 refundable deposit" do they think people want to steal the controls?
The deposit i gave them for a remote had been spent by them, so when i went to collect it and return the remote, they didn't have it. So i had to get them to refund it to my card, which i wasn't happy about.
If you don't know how to run a hotel... then you shouldn't be running one.
This hotel really ruined my visit to my country's capitol city, I'll be staying well clear of 19 Mayfield road in the future and I will advise others to do the same.
