We visited Edinburgh in August, which is the height of the festival season. The hotel Ceilidh-Dona offered the perfect location as it allowed us to leave our rental car on the street in front of the hotel while providing us with easy walking access (~25 minutes to the Royal Mile in the center of the city) and readily available bus access (~3 minute walk to the bus). Being in a picturesque and elegant neighborhood away from the bustle of downtown was idyllic.

Our room was spacious, beautifully appointed and sunny. The hotel mixed old world charm with new world comforts - High-speed wireless Internet access, cable television and a large, modern bathroom.

We found the proprietors Max and Annette, and their staff delightful. They were genuinely committed to ensuring a pleasant stay and made us feel most welcome.

We ate both dinner and breakfast at the hotel. We found the menu eclectic and the food simply outstanding, and an excellent value.

In short, this property focuses its attention on every detail - from personal to technological to gastronomical. We recommend it highly.

This a good hotel with smallish rooms and a very highly rated restaurant which had very good food. The hotel is a good value. The only detraction from my view is the interaction with the manager. We arrived to a locked door, spent a good 5+ minutes trying to raise someone at about 5pm (even the taxi driver helped) and then were treated a bit rudely. Also, on the second night got some abrupt help finding another restaurant close by even though we'd dined at the in hotel restaurant the prior night. Be sure to indicate the quantity of eggs, etc., on your menu for breakfast as well... A good but not outstanding place.

The room was located on the third floor and the stairs were too narrow for us to easily carry our suitcases to the room. Although a fan was provided, it was not efficient and the room was uncomfortably hot. Thankfully the hired help was friendly and accommodating, the owner who we met was cold, distant and unfriendly. In fact I preferred to talk with the staff than the owner. The price per person was much higher than expected and over priced for what we received. We do not recommend this B & B and would not ever stay here again.

Great hotel in a nice quiet neighborhood. Great hospitality and friendly staff. Great meals, desserts and bar. Very clean and comfortable rooms. Nice strong shower. Great view of Arthur's Seat out of the front rooms. A short walk to the bus and a short ride (One way = 1 Pound, Whole Day = 2 Pound 30) to Edinburgh's Historic City Center, Princes Street, the Royal Mile, Edinburgh Castle, Holyrood Palace or the bus/train station. And two extremely friendly Golden Retrievers, Celtic and Callie, to greet you after a long day of sight-seeing. Say hi to Max, Annette and the rest of staff for me.
