Just back from a short midweek break in Edinburgh.

Flew into Edinburgh airport and took the Airlink bus to Waverley Bridge (only cost £5 return). The journey time is only 25 minutes and a bus departs ever 10/15 minutes throughout the day.

Picardy Place, where the hotel is located, is about a 7/8 minutes walk from waverley bridge. Hotel does not have much exterior signage, but is to the right hand side of the Hertz Office, and opposite the Playhouse theatre.

We arrived on a morning flight and asked to leave our bags in the bagroom till we checked in later. Reception girls were very cold.

When we came back later in the aftenoon, the guy manning reception was warmer, but very slow. We had requested a room at the front of the building on the highest floor, but ended up with a room on the third floor at the back of the building.

Room was fine but a bit noisy at night with people next door. It looked out onto a flat roof at the back and a small carpark.

You get complimentary breakfast on the second floor which was great. A good selection of cereals, juices, breads and pastries. It was open from 6.30am to 9.30am every morning during the week and later at the weekends.

The good thing about this inn is its central position. The theatre is directly opposite it, so great for a night out. We went to see the musical Joseph, with some of the runners up from the bbc show taking the leading roles.

The omni centre is next to the the theatre and features a number of bars and restaurants including a LLoyds, a wetherspoon bar where you can get some greal meal/drink deals.

Princes street and Edinburgh castle is only minutes away, and if you walk out of the inn, turn left and walk down a bit, you can catch bus 22 down to Ocean Terminal which is a great shopping centre and you can also see the royal yacht there and tour it of you wish.

Best thing about this inn is the location and the breakfast.

Worse thing is the staff friendliness or lack of it , staff ignore you as you walk by them, or walk past reception. One guy was even wearing his ipod going around cleaning.

  • Liked — The location & breakfast
  • Disliked — Staff are not friendly with exception of foreign girl on check out desk who was.

Right in middle of the action! This hotel is convenient to shopping, the Waverly train station, restaurants, clubs and many museums. Staff was couteous and knowledgeable. Check in was fast. Room is small but well designed. Beds were comfortable, bathroom designed for use by two guests at once. Breakfast buffet on the second floor -- good hearty start to your day. Elevators are a half flight of stairs down from the lobby.

We stayed at this hotel form the 12th-14th of decemeber. As other people has previously said the location is perfect!

We were on the 4th floor at the front of the hotel right near the lifts........ NO problem!! Didnt notice noise from the lifts or doors banging, there was alot of sirens going past but its one of those things your i n a city centre! Never heard noise from the clubs but we were there on a wednesday and thursday night!

The omni centre is great for a quiet drink during the day or for somewhere to relax while you decide were you want to go first!

We did eat in pizza hut and this was fine just what you would recieve from any pizza hut.

I would definetly recommend an italian restaurant we ate in. As you leave the hotel turn left walk down that road for about 1 block. The place is calle 'Mamma Roma's' and is absolutly gorgeous lovely staff and very intimate! Italian owners and you can tell!

The hotel is directly over the road from the Playhouse ( see my piccy). During our stay the UK tour of Joseph was on. We went to see this and it was amazing!

Overall we had a brilliant stay at this Hotel!

Any questions just send me a message

Having stayed in Edinburgh on many occasions I wanted a hotel that was central without being too expensive.

On arrival, we were greeted by pleasant reception staff and promptly checked into our rooms. I had previously emailed to request a front facing room on a high floor, and this request was honoured. The rooms were very impressive for a 3 star hotel. Although we had only booked singles (at £49 per night) we were given large rooms that could sleep four. The rooms were light, well decorated and spotlessly clean.

I had expected to be woken by noise outside when the bars closed but the room seemed to be sound proof and no noise was heard.

The breakfast choice was adequate and plentiful. On checkout, we left our luggage until later in the day. On collection we were once again greeted by the polite staff.

I could not fault this hotel and look forward to a return visit.

I've just returned from a weekend holiday in Edinburgh. I was very impressed with Holiday Inn Express.

Our room was on the lower ground level facing the busy street. However, double glazed windows were very effective and the room was really quiet. The room was spacious and clean. Bathroom was also clean and okay sized but cold as there's no heating. Water pressure was weak in the shower but plenty of hot water.

The hotel is located centrally. It's only 8 minutes walk to Princes Street which is a main shopping street and the Edinburgh waverly train station, A big shopping mall is just cross the road from the hotel as well. There are many restaurants and bars around the hotel. Carlton Hill is also across the road and you can get a good view of Edinburgh city.

Hotel provided a list of recommended restaurants around the hotel, all within 5 minutes walking distance. They offer a discount (20-25%) to holiday inn express hotel guests. I tried one of them called 'Howies' and it was very nice. It was packed with locals and the 20% discount was an added bonus!

Cold breakfast included in the rate was simple but nice enough. Cereals, yogurt, pastries, bread, buns, juice etc were offered.

Overall, this hotel is at a great location and offers excellent value for money. I would definately stay here again.
