We instantly felt confortable and welcome in this very well-appointed and roomy restored appartment looking out towards the castle! Everything that you could possibly want is here...the combo washer/dryer was a little challenging but everything else was simple to use. The hosts were genuinely nice people...we liked them instantly.
One word of warning, make certain that you make your reservation with Moira or her husband (there is an imitator out there).

We started our trip in Edinburgh and booked the newer Apartment by the Castle, which is across the street from the original one that is still available for renting as well. Our hosts were delightful, were there to great us when we arrived, helped us settle into the apartment, and gave us tips about the surrounding area. The apartment itself was stunning! Words can not do justice to the incredible views of the Castle from the living room, or the views over the grassmarket and the hills beyond from the bedroom windows. The apartment was immaculately clean, spacious, and quiet during the nights for sleeping. This apartment was the ideal location for Edinburgh, just a few steps from the Royal Mile and the Grass market areas. We can't wait for a return trip another stay at the Apartment by the Castle.

Future travelers beware of "squatters" when making your reservation for Apartment by the Castle. We have heard of others that thought they were booking this Apartment, only to find that they had been directed to another place that was linked to the Apartment by the Castle site. This is out of the control of the Apartment by the Castle owners, and just make sure you are reserving at this place and not some other undesirable place by accident!

Extremely friendly owner that met us (she stood in the door when we arrived). Nice and clean, great view. Just some steps down to the grassmarket, a small walk to the royal mile, great view to the castle. What more could we wish for?
Well - go to restaurant NUMBER ONE in Edinburgh. It's worth every penny!

In January 2009 I had the great good fortune to spend two weeks in this lovely apartment. To wake up each morning & look out onto Edinburgh Castle was thrilling. I found the apartment beautifully decorated with so many period details maintained. It was also spotlessly clean. Everything I needed was in the kitchen and I really appreciated the generous welcome pack. I was pleasantly surprised to find the apartment so quiet given its location so close to The Royal Mile. No difficulty sleeping here! The location is ideal with no need to bother with a car as so much is within walking distance.
I especially appreciated all the recommendations given by Mrs. Bowman. I wanted to take my niece, who is studying in Glasgow, to a Robbie Burns Supper and Mrs. Bowman suggested the PrestonField House Hotel and it was magnificent. We had a tremendous evening. Mr. & Mrs. Bowman live in Edinburgh and know all there is to know about what the city has to offer. I would have made a few wrong choices if it weren't for Mrs. Bowman's excellent advice.
I have used TripAdvisor on a number of occasions and have never been disapointed. I'm certain that others choosing this apartment will be delighted they did!
