Stunned by the location - even if you see the pictures online, once you are there, you realize that you are right in the center of town. Downhill to the Grassmarket (with great restaurants and pubs) and uphill to the Royal Mile (castle, museums, etc.). Loved watching the light on the castle change throughout the day - could have easily sat in the apartment all day reading a book, drinking a whisky and feeling the envy of all those tourists without such a great view.

Moira is a lovely host - our welcome packet lasted us for several breakfasts (and this was with 4 adults) and the attention put into the amenities was top-notch. It was terrific - with the 4 adults - to have a place to wind-down every night and the space to do it.

You even can save some money by eating at least one or two of your meals each day in the apartment. And by doing your own whisky tastings (mini-bottles available everywhere) every night.

The most amazing appartment with the most amazing location. The view of the castle is as if you lived in the grounds. Those viewing the castle could only look on with envy at the place we were staying. Stayed at the appartment for a wedding in the castle and it was such a special place for the bride to get ready and travel from. Eric and Moira are so helpful and friendly and could not have done more to help and support our visit before and during.

With our thanks to Moira and Eric Bowman, I would like to give our review on our stay. We arrived a day early, it happened to be Halloween and I would really recommend that to anyone! The Saor Patrol was "busking" in the Royal Mile, they were setting an atmosphere you couldn't denie! Then people were crowding near the castle, a beautiful Halloween Parade was starting from there, absolutely worth watching. It wasn't our first stay in Edinburgh, but it was our first stay at the apartment by castle and it was definately not the last!
We enjoyed the weather, it was almost warm and we took a nice walk toward Dean Village, which is worth to take a look at.
We can recommend this apartment to everyone, you are really home away from home!

During a 3 months trip, we took our children to several countries and stayed in rentals versus hotels to give them a flavor for the city, learn the public transport, grocery stores, maybe meet the neighbors as well as visit tourist sights. Ambitious, not always wonderful, lots of eye rolling when we suggested the less than optimal conditions were another 'adventure'. Edinburgh was an wonderful city with many family friendly attractions and restaurants.

When researching places to stay in Edinburgh, I was intrigued by Apartment by Castle's stellar reviews. We booked, arrived, and then I found out why. This apartment did not feel like a rental. Moira and Eric were like the beloved relatives whose apartment we were borrowing for a week. They don't just rent this apartment. Hospitality is their passion, and they have created a wonderful home with conveniences with families in mind. The city should compensate these people...or at least encourage them to teach classes on how create a welcoming place for weary families.
