“Stay nowhere else in Edinburgh”

This was my first time staying in an apartment, and I was so not dissapointed. The Chester Residence isn't quite as central as Radisson Blu/Scotsman/Balmoral etc, but it is still within walking distance of the main attractions.

There was a little confusion about finding the place when it came to checking in - we actually arrived at their main reception which is a short walk around the block.
I don't think I've ever had a warmer welcome anywhere. The staff were all smiles and genuinely interested in you, your requirements and stewart/stuart kindly carried our (pretty heavy) luggage for us.

We were shown around the apartment and this was the only real hiccup during the stay. We soon realised after viewing the welcome letter that it wasn't our apartment...and we had to contact reception who agreed that we had been put in the wrong apartment. This was a shame as it was absoilutely faultless and beautiful! Oh well, these things happen. Things were dealt with with good humour and apoligies.

I had ordered floweres and groceries and they were all ready for me. Our first floor apartment was spotlessly clean, large, cosy and the fittings were excellent. DVD's were available for us to use (via reception) and we had a CD player and docking station for i-pod. The lighting was very cosy. It certainly felt very homely.

The two bathrooms featured underfloor heating and heated rails and fluffy towels (alongside robes and slippers). There was also a selection of Harry Potter and Ian Rankin books to read and a nice selection of cereals.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay - all of the staff were a delight and was just sorry we wasn't able to go around for their canopes and drinks meeting night on Saturday.

I kinda hope The Chester Residence doesn't become too massive..or that they don't become complacent. Keep doing the same things and improving on them and continuing your fantastic level of service.

Pleasure to meet you all and stay here.

Normally my wife and I stay with my mum in Edinburgh but last minute circumstances meant we had to find a hotel at the last minute -and Edinburgh was full, so we had to go with 3 hotels in 3 nights, Fraser Place next to Royal Mile, Malmaison in Leith and Chester Residence -where we had to change rooms due to previous booking. All were good to excellent and with Fraser Place and Chester Residence being new, a huge uplift in quality accommodation in a city full of ordinary accommodation with great properties crappily renovated (too many Travel Lodges at cheaper end) or getting more and more run neglected every year (Royal British as example). We paid GBP175 per night for a 1 bedroom apartment. Quality of accommodation was outstanding and without doubt taking into account cost of labour etc, the best value accommodation I have ever stayed in. Both apartments were fantastic. My mum's husband is a builder and he was stunned by the quality of fittings - lights (wall light fittings would be GBP150+ each), utility points etc are top notch - even false walls for fitting Bose speakers for the I Pod; original paintings of renowned artist;Siemens hob, oven and microwave very high speed internet etc . The space is fantastic with huge lounges (Georgian property with great proportions) of around 50x50 in the 2nd flat and a little smaller in the first. There were some glitches in the second apartment - Sky was not working and the night porter goofed up in not being able to fix it - easily fixed in morning; and that flat had some power supply issues that needs fixing as a few light bulbs needed replacement (no problems in first flat), but the manager Rory reacted really positively - as we used the great kitchen and dining room facilities for a dinner for my family, he had little gift packs with sweets put together for the 3 kids as an apology for the glitiches we had. For the dinner, they provided extras without any problem. Rory is very good at reacting to recommendations - we pointed out to reception that turning bacon under the grill would be easier with tongs rather than a fork - the next day each flat had a pair of tongs bought. My only criticism which is common for most hotels nowadays is too warm conditions for sleeping - in warm climates it is the putting in of duvets rather than light blankets, at Chester Residence room temperature is comfortable but 22 tog duvet is too heavy for me. For tourists with a car, Chester Residence is well located as available parking which is metred after 8am to early evening, but otherwise free and available. If you want buffet breakfast - do not go, but even though no restaurant, breakfast can be ordered and mark ups are not that big - croissant is GBP1.20 (80p in French bakery nearby) , so you do not get screwed on mark ups like so often happens. In the New Towm, about 7 minute walk to Haymarket - so for 2-3 day tourist wanting to be in the heart of tourist Edinburgh, Fraser Place may be a better choice. At GBP175 compared to GBP300 plus at Balmoral and GBP225 for Missoni for rooms, it is a no brainer decision to go with Chester Residence. The prices are likely to go up as the property is only one year old and with high occupancy and deserved trip advisor rating, prices will go up. The owners have bought one of the next door properties for development. So if prices have not increased already, and you are thinking of a Scottish holiday - book now. I wish the owners luck with continued growth of their business across Scotland as I was told by Rory they were targeting - it will be a great benefit for Scottish tourism to have a home grown truly top class boutique chain.

Booked this as a special treat for my birthday and was so not disappointed! this place is amazing and other places we stayed in throughout our trip, although lovely, couldnt come near to comparing. Somehow they have made the accommodation luxurious and stylish while at the same time comfortable and homely feeling.
We were upgraded to a grand suite (apartment 9/2) and it was gorgeous - stylish bedroom, bathroom with under floor heating, fully equiped kitchen, huge living room with dining area and desk. All of the little details made it extra special - robes & slippers, luxury toiletries, nice coffee maker, DVD library to choose from, and the service was excellent from start to finish.
The only not so positive point we would have was we ordered dinner to our room and we were not that impressed with the food, we would rather have ordered a regular takeaway (the apartment was too nice to leave to go out to a restaurant!), however breakfast was very nice, particularly the fruit salad & meusli.

The Chester Residence has recently been renovated with no expense spared. it's in a series of beautiful Georgian townhouses on a quiet garden square 5 mins walk to the new Town. I thought it was expensive for Edinburgh (during the festival) so had high expectations. The apartment was good, light and well appointed. The kitchen was stocked with milk, a good espresso machine, and excellent cooking equipment. The bedrooms with very comfy beds and good quality sheets.

The staff were incredibly attentive, knowledgeable and had recommendations and ideas for any question asked.

I would highly recommend it.

Well what can I say about the Penthouse Suite, yes its up four flights of stairs and there are no elevators in these wonderfully restored buildings that now have serviced apartments, but I didnt have to carry up my suitcases so I was fine.

Please ensure you tip the wonderful guys who have to carry your luggage up and down those stairs. The decor in the entry and stair wells is elegant and sets the tone for what you can expect when you open the door to your apartment. Our door opened up onto a landing and you could turn right and left. Right and up a few stairs took you in the large and welcoming lounge area (nice touch that the room had the Jo Malone London candles lit and the whole room had a lovely smell). Up on this floor was a modern and well equiped kitchen complete with breakfast bar and stools and a Nespresso machine, also a large box full of different Twinnings teas and fresk milk in the fridge as well as complimentary bottled water - both sparkling and flat.

Also DVD and Ipod stations, the full set of Harry Potter books and Ian Rankin books, security intercom.

Back down landing and we continued our exploration and found this amazing bathroom, huge free standing tub with plasma tv at the end of it, large vanity area and double basin and an very long shower with a rainhead showerhead. Great fluffy towels, Jo Malone aftershave and perfumes - this was a very large bathroom, also heated floor and towel rails.

Well lets continue our exploration and head back outside of the huge bathroom and turn back into the hallway to the master bedroom. Very large room, great wardrobe, lots of hangers and another large plasma tv. COmfortable bed and good quality linens (might I suggest that you put the Ironing board in a wardrobe or storage space rather than lean it up against the wardrobe as it spoils the initial impression on walking into this lovely large room).

All in all a lovely place to stay and excellent staff, Special thank you to Anna also one of the other managers who recommended Gustos for us to eat, it was so good we ate two nights out of the three at this restaurant/bar.

Negatives: Housekeeping had not removed some off the previous guests pasta from the pantry cupboards prior to us checking in, also the lounge room bin was not emptied once in the three days we stayed there, also the tea bags that we had used were not replaced daily, which necessitated us having to ring down and ask for more of the ones we used as well as the sugar used.
Quite a few of the down lights were out and we asked for them to be changed but only a couple were the rest stayed out. Also there were no lights over any mirrors in the bedroom so you could blowdry your hair in the light. Could not do in bathroom as no powerpoints.

You were able to use the internet free at reception if you didnt have your own PC and the hotel had a lovely guest lounge a few doors down from our apartment (7/1). Overall a lovely place, just need to fine tune some housekeeping issues.
Would we stay there again - Yes even with the four flights of stairs (which we were well aware of when we booked).

No parking other than metered parking and the parking police are constant.
Tip: Great laundry/dry cleaner up on the corner of the road also a little convenience store that has fresh fruit, gorceries and the like. Only less than five mintues walk also near the bus stop, but you can walk into the city centre from here in between 15-20 minutes.

Just returned from 5 nights at the Chester Residence -- Chester Street side (the patio apartment) Well what can I say -- it is true, this place is a dream. The location, the staff, the apartment (and we peaked in a few more!) and the city itself. We are from the States and have traveled often and this really hits the mark!
The staff here really makes the stay. The other items are great but the staff is top notch. I had talked with Anna on the phone prior to arrival but met Natalie when we first arrived and they are both the best! But all of the staff were great (sorry I cannot remember everyone’s name!). Every time we picked up a phone for a cab, a suggestion of a restaurant or the hiring of a private car they were there for us. They always went the extra mile. If the restaurant we were trying to get a reservation for wasn't open yet they would take our cell number and call us later to let us know when our reservation would be. Just details like that can make such a difference. For some it maybe a little far from Princes Street and the activity but the walk was fine and we always felt safe and the ambiance of the neighbor hood was to die for.
I truly cannot recommend Chester residence enough. I cannot wait to return. Stay at the Chester you will not be disappointed. And if by chance you were unhappy about something I am sure they would find a way to rectify the matter!

We booked at the last minute as we wanted to see some friends in Edinburgh, one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in. Stayed both Friday and Saturday night in two different rooms (because we decided to stay an extra night), the staff were extremely accommodating even going so far as to top up our car parking so we would not get a ticket. I honestly cannot recommend this hotel enough and have not stopped telling friends to stay there, even ones that live in Edinburgh! It is a much more personal experience staying in a hotel like this rather than the usual generic and expensive chain hotels. The rooms were emaculate and had everything you could possibly want in them, the location is brilliant as you can walk to George St etc in 5-10 minutes, all in all a brilliant place to stay.
