“Five star all the way”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2013

I booked The Chester Residence as a birthday treat for my boyfriend and it absolutely made the weekend one to remember! We arrived way before check-in at 11.30am to leave our bags before exploring the city and were seated in the lounge with (free) tea and coffee whilst they prepared our room for us to go up early. The staff are amazing and so friendly and helpful.

We were given the penthouse apartment and it was even more than I was hoping for - my boyfriend was totally blown away! Speakers in the ceiling in every room, Sky TV, iPod docking station, Nespresso machine, TV's in the living room, bedroom and bathroom! Tea and coffee supplies and even proper milk in the fridge. Beautifully decorated and plenty of room - the bathroom has made me pray for a lottery win! Whilst we made ourselves comfortable the doorbell rang and we were handed complimentary champagne, amazing! One thing for the girls - if you're getting ready for a night out make sure you do it before it gets dark - the lighting is lovely but tricky to put your face on :)

The location was fabulous, within walking distance of everything and not far from Haymarket train station. Taxi's to/from the bars and restaurants on George Street only cost about £6.

I could go on and on but in summary, this is the best place to stay if you want to feel special and have a 'home away from home'. It really is the little things and the service that set it apart from other hotels of a similar price. I would stay again and recommend it to anyone in a heartbeat.

I'm wondering if they'll let me move in...

Not a lover of hotel rooms in UK, this was just great. Lots of space in beautiful, quality surroundings. Also the service could not be faulted. The architecture of the area and the location itself makes this the best place to stay for an all round trip to this historic City. Looking forward to coming back.

I stayed at the Chester Residence with my husband, 5 year old son and 2 year old daugther for 2 nights while visiting the zoo and castle. It was our 10th wedding anniversay but we needed to take the kids with us so we chose somewhere that looked great for us to hang out in the evenings when the kids were packed off to bed.

Our apartment was lovely. The bedrooms are quite small but the main living area is huge and therefore great for the kids. They were comfortable in it and I did not feel worried that they would damage anything.

It is well located, with some nice family friendly restaurants close by and the odd corner shop for provisions. It was easy to find but there was quite a lot of diversions around the city with the tram lines being laid. Getting out by car to the zoo was easy and getting through the city in the car also fine.

The apartment was well equiped, some of which had hardly been used. This is an expensive place to stay and therefore I assume most people would only stay a night or two and therefore a lot of the cooking facilities will not be used freqently. The toiletries were nice (Molton Brown) and all your dishwasher tablets, cloths and toilet rolls were provided. It was quiet in the apartment and we had a good sleep. Underfloor heating on the tiled floors meant we could walk around bare foot all weekend.

The service was great too. There is nowhere really to park and unload, but they helped us quickly do it while in a permit space while they presented our children with a lovely easter egg. All weekend they helped out when needed such as when we struggled with the TV technology which they were more than happy to help with (just our inability to use Sky), and they booked a restuarant for us and recommended where we could pick up some Calpol at 8pm one evening. A very strong young man carried all of our luggage down in one go (and he wore a kilt which the kids loved).

We booked and used the car park which was quite tight for the 4x4 and it is around the block from the hotel, so we needed to do a bit of running back and to in order to get things we had left (this was the end of a longer break so we had a boot full of luggage). However they did say if I couldn't manage to get into the space then they would pay for it to be on the street and top up the meter as required. Can't ask more than that of the staff as they are just working with what they have.

A couple of improvements or niggles are as follows:

The table for eating was square, so quite small for a family. It was adequate but a slightly larger rectangular one could maybe have fitted in.

There is no real place to sit in front of a mirror and dry your hair and put your makeup on. I popped my makeup on in the en-suite bathroom and the lighting in front of the mirror was poor.

There was the odd stain on the carpet and bedding throws and parts of the wallpaper ripped slightly. Just spoiled the overall effect a little as the apartment itself if stunning.

We had a fire alarm one evening when the children were in bed. It was another apartment that had set it off burning some toast, but it was a little disturbing, but the hotel were not in control of this. It went of twice briefly and then they disabled it so stop it happening again as we were unsure if we needed to vacate therefore we rang reception to check.

The plumbing was quite noisy when showering and flushing the toilets in the evening when the children were sleeping.

Summary:-

I would love to stay here again. It was a great base, very relaxing and the main room was so light and airy making eating breakfast a joy looking out over the city.

Room Tip: No lifts so if you might struggle with the stairs, ask for a lower apartment.

My boyfriend got us a two night stay at The Chester Residence as a birthday treat in Feb and it was out of this world! We were upgraded for free on arrival to the penthouse which was absolutely amazing! The penthouse had everything you could want and more. Large living area with sky tv, coffee machine, champagne fridge, high spec appliances, double bath (with tv in the bathroom), very comfortable bed with views of the castle. The service is what makes the Chester Residence stand out. We were greeted with two glasses of champagne when we got to our room and a birthday card for me! They booked us a great restaurant as we had no idea were to go and then even printed us out a menu to read while we were waiting for our taxi - oh which they paid for as another birthday treat! We got a dvd out of the cupboard on the second night and a guy from reception gave us a bag of popcorn to enjoy with our film! Please do not stay anywhere else in Edinburgh as you will not be dissappointed! I'm going to book my mum and dad a night for their 35th wedding anniversary soon and hopefully another night for us soon too!

Needed a special place to stay as part of a 40th birthday present, and when researching, the Chester Residence was the one that stood out. The great reviews made the choice even simpler. We wanted a place to chill, and a serviced apartment seemed a great idea, and the facilities at the Chester couldn't have been better. From arrival to departure, the stay was perfect. The staff do an amazing job, and it would unfair to single individuals out. Nothing was ever too much (not that we had to ask for much) and the attention to detail unprecedented; but it was the little touches (such as popcorn, chocolates and our favourite Nespresso coffee pods) that made a big difference. This is one place we will certainly return to, in fact, we didn't really want to leave!!!!!

First time for a family vacation with our two adult children. Edinburgh first stop and I wanted a special hotel. Read all the reviews and decided I had to check out the Chester Residence as the reviews were almost too good to be believed. Tried the live chat as I wanted 2 bedrooms/2 bathrooms with one room providing single beds. From the lovely chat with Ms Redmayne to the outstanding service from Ed, our 4 day stay in room 6-1 was relaxing with a well stocked kitchen with coffee /tea, 3 tv's, fine breakfast to order to room, lovely views, comfortable beds, mouton brown bath essentials, rain shower in master BR and tub in other, large safe and contemporary furnishings in good sized rooms. Daily cleaning service where they fold your pj's if you neglect to stow in the more than adequate drawers and cabinets. You'll even get over the slightly annoying noise from the water pump, only when the water is on, as you congratulate yourself for choosing so brilliantly.

Room Tip: 6-1 with 2 flights of stairs but good views out the front 2 bedrooms and garden views from the kitc...
