“2nd Time Blues”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 10, 2012

Having had a near perfect stay there a few weeks ago, I booked a night for my family as part of my 50th Birthday Weekend. The Apartment and the Breakfast food were both excellent, however the service was not up to standard.

In each of my five dealings with staff errors were made. In complaining about seven separate issues the duty manager tried to pass blame back to me on two of them. It escalated to the Director of Group Operations who described my complaints as "tiny" and felt I had paid the right amount for the service I received. (I paid full rack). He promised to guarantee a perfect stay next time. Assuming of course I would want to.

I do not consider wasting an hour and a half of my time on a one night stay, or fumbling about in the shower because of a broken soap-holder, (especially as I had an injured arm) "tiny" .

I stay in lots of hotels, and mistakes of course happen. However for Number 1 in Trip Advisor Edinburgh and Scottish Hotel of the Year 2012 I do expect complaints to be dealt with in a proper manner. One word sums up the response: arrogant.

Dear Keith W
Firstly I'm glad you noted that your previous stay was perfect and that on this occasion your apartment and food were both excellent .

As you highlighted in your review that you had some issues during your stay i thought it only fair to highlight to future guests reading your review that if you had of raised any of these issues during your time we would have strived to remedy the minor concerns you had, with the main issue being a broken soap holder in your room which occurred during your stay, please note that we did offer you another apartment but you declined!

You also were unhappy with your wait for a complimentary newspaper , it important to highlight here that you never requested said paper until the morning you checked out and when you called to ask if you could have the paper in question , one of our team ran out to the nearest shop to collect the paper of your choice and deliver it to you as soon as was possible.

Finally , you mention that your complaint was escalated to myself, this was due to the threatening language and request for a "free night" or you would post a negative review. This was explained to you that due to the nature of ethics was not something I would consider and not something Tripadvisor allow, thus I have reported your review to them directly as it is in breach of their rules.

I'm sorry that you have chosen this forum to air your views, however I'm sure readers of this review will look at our 624 reviews and consider your points unfair.

“just what we wanted”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 9, 2012

Luxury, space and efficient friendly staff- The Chester provided us with all we wanted without paying for what we did not need. quiet comfortable. lenty of staff to calm us down after driving through Edinburgh's rediculous tram road closures. The room was fatastic and the bar area was welcoming and vey reasonable. Breakfast was cold collations ( perhaps should have got some eggs from the corner shop to add to it.) Our first visit but not our last I am sure -the Scotsman and Balmoral have just lost custom.

Room Tip: 9/3 vast sitting room - the one in the Chester's photo

“Sheer Perfection”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 5, 2012

Our family of four just returned from a magical trip to Edinburgh. A highlight of our trip was our four night stay at The Chester Residence. Unlike some sites, the photos they advertised on their website paled in comparison to the actual apartment. We stayed in apartment 6/1 and were thoroughly impressed with the decor and the comfort. The two-bedroom, two-bath apartment was well layed out. The kitchen and bathrooms were beautiful. Views from both the front and back windows were lovely. We loved the apartment so much would we gladly move into it permanently! Enough with raving about the accommodations...on to the staff. Each employee we encountered was professional, personable and laser focused on customer service. Indulge! Treat yourself. The Chester Residence lives up to all the reviews before mine. As I headlined this review - sheer perfection!

“Wow factor customer experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2012

This was a last minute booking that will remain in the memory for all the right reasons. From the moment you are greeted by the attentive and friendly staff to the moment you leave you'll wonder why you've stayed in other places in Edinburgh in the past. I stayed in the penthouse, which was fantastic and very luxurious, but it was the added 'extra mile' customer service touches that stood out. I ordered takeaway and when it arrived I had forgotten rice or noodles. The porter asked if he should order some and I said no it was my fault. Five minutes later he's at the door with some rice - he and the other staff downstairs had ordered a takeaway of their own and wanted me to have their rice! I declined but he insisted. What's more, he handed me a beer to enjoy with the meal. That's wow factor stuff in my book and the reason why I have no hesitation recommending this hotel.
