We stayed there three nights in October 2005. We have two small kids (age 9 and 7) and they loved it. The place was clean and well-appointed. The kitchen was great, and there is a Tesco grocery store just 5 minutes away, so grabbing some groceries and using the microwave or the oven makes for cheap, quick meals, especially for families with small kids that may not have 'Scottish appetites.'
The bedrooms were good-sized, and the beds were comfortable. Our inward-facing apartment was very quiet, though I don't think we had any neighbors above or beside us when we were there.
The price was comparatively good, too. The only thing that I was a bit surprised or unclear about was that we did not have any maid service the three days/nights that we were there. Again, not a big problem, but I'm not quite sure what their policy is regarding that.
Location-wise, it's near some pretty major roads, so catching a bus to Princess Street or the Royal Mile is a cinch.
The front desk staff was very helpful, giving us some tips to get around town and also to help point us in the right direction as we headed out into the country with a rental car.
All in all, a very good choice for us and I recommend you give it a try, especially if you are a traveling family.
