After looking around on many of the usual holiday booking sites, the cheapest deal I could find was from the Novotel website. That was for the deal that included breakfast; most of the other sites only had deals that excluded breakfast (£12 extra if you wanted it).

Room was slightly bigger than normal for this standard, including sofa. TV reception wasn't great. Bathroom quite good, although shower head was leaking. Didn't try the bath. Toilet in a separate cubicle which was a bit of a nuisance. Bed fine.

Used the gym and pool a couple of times. Pool quite small, but long enough to do a few lengths in. Decent jacuzzi. Small sauna and steam room, changing rooms quite small. Gym had a couple mats and five pieces of equipment, so if there's a few people in it might be tricky to use all the equipment you want. Otherwise seemed fine.

Breakfast quite good, about normal for this standard of hotel. Hotel bar quite nice, did some ok bar snacks and good range of beers.

Service overall very good from the mostly east European staff. Would stay here again.

Stayed here for three nights. Double room with sofa bed for our daughter booked through Novotel site for £85 per night B & B. I didn't meet any of the staff who were local but that seems normal for an international brand in a capital city. All of the staff I did meet were very nice and helpful. Continental breakfast was included and we had this delivered to our room each day for no extra charge. Nice fresh croissants, fresh fruit salad, cereals, yoghurt etc.

Parking was available but I didn't use their car park after being put off by reviews saying it's £10 every time you leave. We used the car quite frequently to visit the zoo, Royal Commonwealth Pool etc. and every time we returned to the hotel we were able to park on street on Lady Lawson St. (runs down one side of the hotel). Parking is free between 6.30 p.m. and 8.30 a.m. and if you pay for an hour after 6.30 p.m. your ticket is good until 9.30 the next morning so you don't have to rush out.

We were very disappointed with the pool. One of the main reasons we chose this hotel was because our daughter loves to swim. We went in once. The pool being small didn't present a problem but the water felt greasy as the filter system didn't seem to be strong enough to cope with the people who exited the sauna and jumped into the pool without showering. There is also a damp mould smell in the pool area which is offputting.

Finally (my pet gripe) the bed was hard. Personal preference I know but I will bear this in mind about Novotels before choosing them again.

Mar 25, 2008 | Trip type: Family

Down to Edingburgh to apply for a visa, I spent one night with my best travel companions: my wife and daughter.

This was my second time to stay in a Novotel Hotel, the first being the Montparnasse in Paris. The design is the same, so I will be focused on the quality of service and food.

Quality of service:
The staff is very friendly, specially with my daughter (they do understand that if a kid is happy then parents will come back - smile). I called the restaurant to ask for a room service and after driving for 03 hours for the trip, the chef took all his time to provide the best advice for the food selection.

Quality of food:
This is the best part. My wife wanted to go for a fast food (remember that we travelled a long jourvey). I proposed to call and ask for the food as we were closed to 6'o Clock (restaurant opening time). The food was delivred few minutes later and the taste!?! Excellent!!! It is a local dishes prepared with a french touch: very good. All the family enjoyed the meal.

Few more words : the room is very clean with a spacious sofa turned into a bed for my princess.

Car park facility for £10 for the night (rate may change). You will need to make sure that you park earlier as it's a first arrived first served basis.

Location: lot of places around for tourist

We really enjoyed our one night stay.

Got Room for £89 per night for twin room. Perfect location, five minute walk from grass market. Was here on stag of 20. The staff were great and had no bother with them. Rooms were perfect. Safe, iron and iron board in room, tea and coffee facilities, power shower which was amazing, I-pod connections and internet connections along with big tv, seprate toilet and bathroom in the room.

If there is a group of you travelling, it would be cheaper to travel by Taxi to hotel from airport than the city buses. Buses leave you with a bit of a walk. Nice looking swimming pool and jacuzzi but did not try out. The area is full of pubs and niteclubs. The reception even has a playstation 2 in the lobby for kids (and Big Kids) and internet computer in corner. The bar is lovely but very expensive food. recommend heading elsewhere for grub.

Would definately stay here again.

Quite new hotel in the centre, very well located. Excellent leisure facilities and bar. Rooms were spacious, comfy and clean. Fast WiFi and a good range of TV channels

Staff were friendly and the bar was open until 5am - always a bonus. They had a Playstation in the looby as well!

We also used the conference facilities in the day along with ordering a buffett dinner for around 10/12 people which was excellent.

Would definitely stay here again and in fact am doing so in April!
