We have just returned from 3 nights staying at Budget backpackers in Edinburgh which cost us each £10 a night and this is a quick review.
Just for a bit of background in the past I have stayed in a number of hostels some quite disgusting which I will never go near never mind stay in again and some which were quite nice however this is the best hostel i have honestly ever had the pleasure to stay in.
The hostel itself is in a great location on the junction separating Cowgate from Grassmarket in the old town of Edinburgh. This meant that there were plenty of bars, cafe's, restaurants, pubs and shops nearby to visit. Also it was only a five minute walk to the royal mile and you have a fantastic view of the castle from the reception and chill out rooms.
The accommodation was bright and spacious, smoke free and very homely. There was a games room with pool table and giant connect four and a chill out room with plenty of sofas and a big plasma tv where lots of long term backpackers seemed to chill out but all were very friendly. The reception also had three internet ready computers for £1 for 30mins. We stayed in a six bed dorm located on the first floor in the main building. We were given fresh cover, pillow and duvet sheets at the start of our stay and the room was very clean with free lockers inside the room to keep your belongings secure. Our room consisted of three bunk beds which were very comfy and each had a small shelf for belongings and a small light. We found it quite easy to get a good nights sleep as the majority of other ‘hostelites’ were quite respectful when walking through the halls. It has to be said was that there were lots and lots of showers, toilets and sinks throughout the hostel which were regularly cleaned. All the showers were in private cubicles with locks on and you could adjust the pressure from trickle to powershower (my option!). Being a very clean person I was very satisfied with the quality of the cleaning and toilet facilities.
Finally the staff were magnificent very vigilant with security but very friendly and always asking how our stay was going and giving us helpful tips where to get cheap discounted grub and the best bars around the area. I heartily recommend this hostel to anybody taking a quick weekend break, far better value than a travel lodge or somebody wishing to stay longer term.
In short its dirt cheap, the accomodation, location and facilities are excellent and the staff are wonderful, what more could you want.
