This ranks as one of the best hostels I have ever stayed in. If you're young and doing the whole backpacking thing, then definitely stay here. Security is great and everything is clean. I stayed in the new building and it was definitely a lively place. At night, a lot of kids at the hostel got together and went to the local bars and pubs, with drink specials for people staying at Budget Backpackers. It was led by one of the kind members of the hostel staff. I didn't get to take advantage of the free tour they offer, but definitely would have if I had more time to spend in Edinburgh.
