A wonderful location, it has the beach and promenade virtually on the doorstep and the location gave us an ideal opportunity to explore the fringe festival and be able to return to our relaxing guest house. The bus route to Edinburgh is 30 seconds away.

All the staff were excellent, friendly and helpful throughout our 6 night stay. Our 5 year old was made to feel very happy and this enabled us to relax.

The rooms were excellent very spacious and clean at all times.

We must also mention Reds restaurant. A great child friendly environment with a very adult feel to the cafe by day and restaurant by night.

Thank you for a great stay.

Was the 6th year in a row for us to stay at the Ardgarth Guest House. The location is perfect for a trip to Edinburgh and the South as well. The rates are moderate and the rooms clean. Ursula and Richard are always helpful if you are looking for places to visit or a good restaurant around. Its just a short distance to Portobello beach and town centre. We'll surely return next year!

The Ardgarth was our home away from home during our week's stay in Scotland, and we felt instantly comfortable there. When we arrived, we received a very welcoming and informative introduction to the Ardgarth itself, and to Portobello, the suburb of Edinburgh where the Ardgarth is located (a 15-20 min. bus ride from the City Centre, with the bus stop only a minute's walk away). As we required accessible accommodations, we were very impressed with the owner's extensive knowledge of wheelchair-friendly restaurants, etc. in Portobello, attractions in Edinburgh, and, above all, with our adapted room--it answered to all of our needs. The breakfasts were lovely, the staff friendly and attentive, and the rates very reasonable; free internet access was an added bonus!

We would recommend the Ardgarth readily to anyone looking for accessible accommodation outside of, but not far from, the City Centre -- it is the ideal spot! Thank you, Ursula and Richard!

  • Liked — The friendly and attentive staff; the wheelchair accessbility; free internet access
  • Disliked — no electrical outlets in bathroom (for hairdryer, etc.)

I loved the location of this bed and breakfast. The place is easily accessable by bus, once you get the hang of the system. You can walk down to the beach from the b & b, which was very nice. Had we not stayed near the beach, we probably would not have ventured there! One morning, we walked down to the beach and enjoyed watching people's dogs running in and out of the water, chasing the seagulls.

The owner was friendly, and helped us when we were looking for a particular site. Our room was a good size, and we never had a problem waiting for the bathrooms, even though they were shared. Breakfast was also very good, with some different choices.

The binder in our room was also helpful, and we ended up finding a place we wanted to visit in there that we otherwise would not have found, since it wasn't in our guidebook!

I have just returned to London after a marvellous four night stay at the Ardgarth. I had stayed there many times before, and had always found the guest house very comfortable, and Ursula and Rich very welcoming. This time i visited with my mother who has impaired mobility. She stayed in one of the two ground floor disabled-friendly rooms and was very comfortable, and Ursula was very attentive.
The breakfast is superb (lovely haggis!) and the rooms are all spotlessly clean. Excellent value for money in an excellent location - no more than 2 minutes' walk from Portobello beach, with a very reliable bus service right to the heart of Edinburgh.
