We got a fantastic deal on this hotle and me and my boyfriend decided to go away for the weekend over Easter. This hotel was fantastic, the pool left little to be desired but the jacuzzie, steam room and sauna was great. We never used the gym as it was a relaxing break rather than our usual routine. It is located just of priness bridge and within easy walking distance from Edinbrough castle. You have to walk through the princess street gardens it was a really lovely day when we were there and it was quit a romantic setting. This hotel was excellently placed the only downfall it has, is that they do not have parking facilities and you have to use the Renissance car park across the street, wich of course costs more as you do not get a discounted rate. So that is something to bear in mind when booking,it may be cheaper to stay somewhere else with the same kinds of facilities.

Room service was fantastic and we dinned in our room one evening, to food was fine just what you would expect really.

We actually won a competition for a two night stay at this hotel with dinner on one night.
The reception area is very impressive, but freezing cold (we were there in February, but...) and because the bar is above the reception I found this to be uncomfortably cold on an evening.
We paid to upgrade our room (robes, chocolates, bottle of wine etc), and we weren't disappointed, it was at the back of the hotel high up with nice distant views. The room was very large, nicely decorated, with a large clean modern bathroom.
We ate out the first night at a Italian restaurant just up the street, and after the meal we had in the hotel the following night I wish we'd eaten out there again. The setting of the restaurant is quite nice, but the food was very disappointing. I had the fish which was full of bones (had to pay for vegetables separately), and my husband's steak was literally just that, no trimmings, just served with the chunky chips he had to order to go with it. The food was virtually thrown on the table, not served, and the staff were pretty frosty. At breakfast the next morning we had to look on other people's tables to find butter, jam etc. Heard a lot of people complaining about slow service.
We used the pool once. It was ok. Cannot really see any of the multi million pound revamp there.
One thing that did annoy me was the fact that room service trays that guests had put outside their rooms would stay there all day. The last thing you want to see as you wander the corridors is other people's dirty plates. The corridors etc were very nicely decorated, brand new carpets, but it's the little things that let the hotel down.
I had a bet with my husband that the bill would be wrong on checkout, and I was right. Eventhough they had the details of the competition win they tried to charge us for the full amount, but this was rectified.
I think I would have been very disappointed if I had actually paid full price for this two night break. I think the room was very nice, probably because we upgraded, but if I stayed there again I would definitely not have an evening meal in the hotel.
The location of the hotel is great, but I imagine there are better hotels for the money near by.

  • Liked — Nice bedroom
  • Disliked — Food in the restaurant. Dirty plates left in the corridors.

We booked through laterooms.com and got a good deal on a half board basis £124 per night for the two of us, and we wern't dissapointed. I was quite suprised about some of the reviews of this hotel as we found everything to be spot on. The location is superb and it's litterally minutes to Waverley Train Station, you can even use the lift that takes you down to the train entrance from the hotel. The food in the hotel was of a very high standard, although the prices for a glass of wine weren't cheap £6.20 per glass! We defo found the spa lovely after a hard days shopping! Our room was great, overlooking the main strip. The one thing that will stay with me from this hotel, is the friendliness of all the staff, they just couldn't do enough for you. I would defo use this hotel agan and intend to.

Just come back from the Paramount Carlton Hotel last week.
I stayed for 2 nights.
I found the staff to be very helpful from arrival. The entrance is very grand.
The room was slightly dissapointing very dark room. I did not like the fact that it was a twin room and the beds were pushed together. And I had to spend time each day on my holiday rearanging bedroom funiture to separate the beds.
The bathroom was nice very light and the bathtub was deep and large.
The veiw was brilliant you could see the roof tops of Edinburgh.
The leisure facilities were dissapointing the pool was cold, and in need of some attention.
The bar staff are very pleasent shame about the cost of the drinks.
Overall the staff were very nice always with a smile on their faces. The noise was not to bad at all.
I wouls atay again as the location is so good.

  • Liked — The veiw acroos the city
  • Disliked — The very overpriced bar

The hotel was in a great location. Right next to the high street, you could walk to anywhere you wanted to go! So that was great.

All the reviews I read about this hotel before booking are pretty much true. It is a very nice hotel. Location was great. It does get noisy at night because your window will most likely overlook North Bridge street, which always has people and cars passing by. The rooms say they have air conditioning but it doesn't really work. And you can't leave the windows open because of the noise. So just be aware of that.

Other than that, I had no complaints. The room was big. The bathroom was nice. Staff was nice. They watched our bags on checkout day until we left. The food there is expensive but we just went elsewhere and got something cheaper.

Overall good hotel, great location, so-so on noise and AC.
