This hotel is in a superb central location - which is one of it's only plus points.

Me and my partner were lucky enough to get a room to the back of the hotel - so no traffic noise etc.

However, the room itself wasn't so great for a 4 star rating, and considering how much it cost.

There were 2 empty water bottles outside of our room door when we arrived...and we discovered that the water hadn't been replaced, and in fact the whole mini bar was completely empty.

It was quite dusty in the room, and the curtains were filthy and stained - and didn't even match up in length.

The bathroom ceiling was quite badly marked and discoloured, and when taking a shower, the water wasn't draining away very quickly, as the plughole was full of hair - yuck.
And finally, we asked for a iron on the Saturday night before we went to bed - the iron arrived on Sunday morning, which was great - however, we were told that there were no ironing boards left! So we ended up having to use a bathtowel and a coffee table to improvise.

Me and my partner stayed at The Cumberland hotel in London a few months back, which is a 4 star - and considering the price wasn't that much different, they were absolute worlds apart!

Also, the bar and restaurant prices were ridiculous! Luckily we eat out in Edinburgh, and just popped back into the bar for a quick drink before bed. But some people seemed to be paying through the nose for food...and seemed to be waiting around for ages until it arrived.

The staff were all very friendly and helpful, especially the concierge who let us keep our bags there after we had checked out, until later in the evening.

If you have booked this hotel already, then don't worry too much, I'm sure you will have a great time and like I said before, the hotel is in an excellent location. Just don't expect it to be 4 star quality.

This hotel claims to be '4-star', but I'm not totally sure where they got the 4th one from. Very briefly; the food was average (even had to wait in a queue to be seated at breakfast!) and my room was below the standard anyone would expect. The furniture was OK (no complaints about the bed) but it was a real let-down when I discovered that the windows were not only single-glazed but also did not fit into their frames properly. Considering that the hotel faces on to one of the busiest roads in Edinburgh you would expect something a bit better... the noise of the many buses, right up to midnight allied with the noise created by numerous clubbers at 3am on their way home kept me awake. On the plus side, the staff were very pleasant and helpful and went out of their way to help on several occasions.

I'd highly recommend this hotel for those looking for a central location or a romantic break. Our room was spacious and clean with a beautifully made bed and a fantastic view looking out on to the Royal Mile, and walking distance from the train and bus stations and main attractions of Edinburgh Castle etc. The bathroom was luxurious with a roomy shower and gorgeous complimentary shower gels and shampoos. The reception staff couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful and were more than happy to assist with our queries concerning the suttle bus to and from the airport, nearest internet connection, restaurant recommendations and so forth. The bar area and restaurant aren't much, but you're right on top of numerous bars, restaurants and pubs so there is plenty of choice outside of the hotel. Noise at night was due to some happy Irish rugby fans giving a rousing rendition of 'Molly Malone' but it wasn't much of a bother. Overall it was a great break in a fun city and we hope to go back at some point to explore the area even more.

a group of us descended on this hotel with due apprehension due to reviews posted here. But we were pleasantly surprised.

this hotel is a diamond in the rough, joseph one of our party described to be just like home.

it was aa great place to the pass the weekend for the a cultured tipperary man like myself, i can only hope that on my next visit there shall be a free room for me to rest my sizable posterior.

also the bathroom facilities were amazing.

Room was OK, but by a very noisy road. Used the fitness center which was dirty - sand in jacuzzi and pool. Breakfast was OK except you had to wait ages for anyone to bring you a cup of tea or coffee. Definitely not worth the money we paid.
