This hotel is in a superb central location - which is one of it's only plus points.
Me and my partner were lucky enough to get a room to the back of the hotel - so no traffic noise etc.
However, the room itself wasn't so great for a 4 star rating, and considering how much it cost.
There were 2 empty water bottles outside of our room door when we arrived...and we discovered that the water hadn't been replaced, and in fact the whole mini bar was completely empty.
It was quite dusty in the room, and the curtains were filthy and stained - and didn't even match up in length.
The bathroom ceiling was quite badly marked and discoloured, and when taking a shower, the water wasn't draining away very quickly, as the plughole was full of hair - yuck.
And finally, we asked for a iron on the Saturday night before we went to bed - the iron arrived on Sunday morning, which was great - however, we were told that there were no ironing boards left! So we ended up having to use a bathtowel and a coffee table to improvise.
Me and my partner stayed at The Cumberland hotel in London a few months back, which is a 4 star - and considering the price wasn't that much different, they were absolute worlds apart!
Also, the bar and restaurant prices were ridiculous! Luckily we eat out in Edinburgh, and just popped back into the bar for a quick drink before bed. But some people seemed to be paying through the nose for food...and seemed to be waiting around for ages until it arrived.
The staff were all very friendly and helpful, especially the concierge who let us keep our bags there after we had checked out, until later in the evening.
If you have booked this hotel already, then don't worry too much, I'm sure you will have a great time and like I said before, the hotel is in an excellent location. Just don't expect it to be 4 star quality.
